I am Canadian, and retired and own a timeshare in United States. If you stop paying maintenance fees and walk away, what happens. Has anybody ever done this?

Out of 9 Canadian tuggers reporting such MF defaults, 0 got reported to the credit agencies.

If you make the hard decision to default, please kindly let us know if your credit got affected. It would help tuggers moving forward.

If you scroll down to other threads you will come to the thread titled: "Canadian with a Timeshare in Florida". I would suggest you take a look at it.

I am not concerned about my credit rating. It is very good. Are there any Canadians out there ( who stopped paying maintenance fees ) that I can contact to discuss.

I’m Canadian and I did on a Florida timeshare. I tried to give away repeatedly, no luck. Tried to deed back, was refused and threatened. It was a resale and no mortgage. The credit reporting system is domestic which means Canadian and US credit reporting is separate so the chances of a report is slim to none.

Here’s what happened

1. For 2 years I received letters. Letters were send back RETURN TO SENDER.
2. Multiple calls were attempted for a year and a half. All were ignored.
2. Certified letter received from a lawyer giving me 90 days to pay or non judicial foreclosure would commence. A document was included to object. I returned nothing and of course NO OBJECTION.
3. Timeshare was foreclosed in 100 days.
4. Amen.

No credit hit, no problems.

@rwrivers We hope you are well. If you made the hard decision to default on your timeshare, would you kindly let us know if your credit got affected? It would help other tuggers in similar situations.
