Good afternoon,

If I obtained a timeshare would I then have access to the getaway weeks in II? That is really the reason why I would obtain one.

You would need to purchase at a resort that is affiliated with Interval International and then sign up and pay for an Interval International membership. So short answer is Yes.

One you might consider is a (free) studio at Ocean Landings in Cocoa Beach. An individual on a Facebook group says the maintenance fees are under $300 annually. (obviously you need to verify this for yourself.) This person uses the studio to exchange during the "flexchange" period (59 days before check-in).
Disclaimer: I do not own at Ocean Landings. I have not verified maintenance fees. I am only passing along information I have read elsewhere. There is a 1 br for sale on Redweek.

I've seen this one mentioned. Are they free though? I suspect you could get them for free if you search them out, but the said individual also sells them for a couple thousand each.

I wasn't aware that the individual sold them. I assumed you could find them for free. The one on Redweek was for free.

Thinking about this concept, buying just for access to getaways......

II getaway pricing has been VERY high for the resorts I follow at least for the last few months. Take Orlando Marriotts - LM units are running $800, for January! Week 52 1BR is almost at $2K! Knowing what I previously paid for getaways here, I find this crazy - 3x the cost lately. Still better than rack rate direct.

If I were to buy, just for this reason, I think I would obtain something that is dual with RCI for access to both systems. RCI is much better for different regions, like New England with their Extra Vacation and Last Call Inventory. I would also consider finding a unit that may be close to home that I would use, so the MF (which obviously you need to be low for this scenario) are not going out the window.

Exactly why I adopted from Tug a VV @ Williamsburg 4 bdr EOY -
it gives me access to both RCI and II. I don’t need 4 brd annually so I lock it off and have a 2brd per year to use as a deposit…

Compared to my other res the dues are pretty minimal for the size.

And remember that you don't have to DEPOSIT the unit with the exchange company to have it registered with them. I have a unit at a dually affiliated resort that I've never deposited with II. However, because it is registered with them, I had access to Getaways. Then I bought a unit at an II-only resort, and now deposit that, so can exchange. :) I agree with mdurette...keep your area in mind. II has very few resorts in New England, so RCI works better for me in general.

Very smart idea to buy low to rent getaways! Friends own at Marriott Desert Springs …they will rent their unit to friends for the maintenance fees and book themselves a getaway for a lesser charge. Smart!

I wonder if it is the difference between a 1BR and a studio. Perhaps the 1BR is double the square footage, thus double the MF and less desirable. It is also possible if you found one and offered $0 someone would take it. I do see a number of studios listed on those undesirable upfront fee listing sites.

Yes, that could be. I've never actually searched for this resort, other than the quick perusal on Redweek after I posted here, and saw the 1br being given away.

I'm sure most owners have no idea of the arbitrage potential in II.
