We are going to Georgia to pick up our newly adopted 8.5 year old daughter in 2 weeks. We will stay in Atlanta for a few days and then we are thinking of heading out to the beach since we have to stay in Georgia until we get the state’s approval to bring her to California. I was looking online and some nice seaside towns look like St Simon’s Island, Sea Island and Jekyll Island. There are probably others too. Any recommendations of where to stay?

Hilton Head is closer than your list, and you can always drive pretty much straight south and end up in the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach, Florida area for about the same distance.

If you do want to stay in Georgia, your list is good. Add Tybee Island (close to Hilton Head)

Big Matt is correct...Hilton Head is closer to Atlanta. There are way too many places to stay in Hilton Head to list,
but I'll list the two best resort hotels for your consideration, imho......

As for the others in Georgia, if driving a wee bit farther is OK, see those listed below that.

I've seen some places on Sea Island listed on ThirdHOME a few times, but there isn't much this month. I've really only stayed in Atlanta on business, so can't recommend much of anything in Georgia.

The bulk of my relative's live in GA, my kids when they were little loved The World of Coke museum and Jekyll Island because it has a water park. My kids would beg my parents when we would be in the Atlanta area visiting to go to Helen, GA... My kids loved this Bavarian Alps replica town and we loved that its home to Oktoberfest... Have fun and enjoy every moment with your daughter...

Congratulations on your family addition (we have adopted!) and we do foster care now. Understand you cannot leave the state! I'm not super familiar with coastal Georgia and there don't appear to be many nice coastal time shares so I would start looking on VRBO/Booking/AirBnb for a 2 bedroom (and a little privacy for everyone). October/November are slow seasons.....but you can hit some beautiful weather, the availability should be great, and the prices should be excellent (if you see what you want available but the price is $high call and make an offer). I would take advantage of checking out the Atlantic coast (we moved here from CA and it's different & worth the effort to see!) And your daughter may have never been to the beach (we're a few hours from the SC coast but none of our 100+ foster children had ever been to the ocean until we all went). Plus the beach will offer great opportunities for activities with quiet social distancing and connecting.....walks, bike rides, exploring, shell collecting. Wishes for a good 1st vacation & a life time of memory making.

If you want a MAGICAL destination only 3.5 hours from Atlanta, albeit not a coastal destination,
consider the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville NC.
It is our favorite place anywhere. The hotel is nothing short of amazing, and very laid back and fun.
You would be able to tour the Biltmore House.

If you don't do it now, put it on your list for the future.
I understand your wish for a coastal destination!!!!!!!!!!!!
That would be special and perhaps more appropriate for this moment in your new family's life,
but a mountain trip is always special too. Keep it in mind.

We decided to spend 4N in Atlanta in a Residence Inn near the current family’s home so we have an extra bedroom and a full kitchen. Then we will move to the Georgia coast. We decided to start out at the King and Prince resort because they have 3 bedroom oceanfront Units with full kitchen. My father, stepmother and great aunt are going to drive up while we are waiting to get ICPC clearance. We may need to stay longer but I will decide on future plans as it gets closer.

The Helendorf Inn, right on the river in downtown Helen GA is highly recommended. Lots to do in the area. Babyland General, mentioned below, is a fun trip!
