My wife and daughter (age 26) will be staying at TreeTops in Gatlinburg over the Christmas holiday. My wife and I have visited the area several times but always in the late spring/summer time. Our daughter has never visited the area.

During Christmas time is there likely to be snow in the mountains? What is the normal average hi or low temps during this time of year?

Even though we have been to Biltmore we want to take our daughter since she has never been there and we would also like to see it decorated for the holidays.

Beyond that are there any special seasonal activities in the area that would be worth considering?

One last point, our daughter is a strict vegatarian. Does anyone know of any restaurants in Gatlinburg that cater to vegatarians, or at least offer some vegatarian entrees?

Christmas in Gatlinburg

We have been to Gatlinburg twice for Christmas. Temperatures can vary greatly. On our last visit we had highs in the low 60's or upper 50's. The previous visit is was snowing when we arrived on Christmas Eve. There is a Christmas light display throughout Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge that is nice to drive at night. We wanted to see the Christmas show at Dixie Stampede but tickets were sold out. If that is something you are interested in, I suggest making reservations in advance.

Also, one word of warning. It will be very busy and traffic will be horrendous. There is a convention held between Christmas and New Years for church youth groups from throughout the south. On our last visit we were arriving on 12/26 and it took 3 hours to get from the interstate to our condo in Gatlinburg.

If you do plan to drive over to Asheville to see The Biltmore during the holidays, reservations are a must. We did this several years ago, took the evening candlelight tour (which was awesome) and made our reservations several weeks in advance for this. The lights in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are beautiful. They call this Winterfest. I was in that area about two weeks ago. Enjoyed the shopping at Tanger's Outlet Mall in Pigeon Forge.

The prediction is up to 7" for the mountains now.

I'm wiggling my nose like Sabrina always did. Let me know if it works.
