We will be staying 2 weeks in Wyndham Smokey Mountains this summer. Previously stayed in Wyndham Lodge at the Smokies. Wanted something different and will pay for a water park if we decide to go. I like the area and love the weather in the summer especially in the mountains. I do hate having to jump in the car every time we want to do something off resort and with so much to do that is a lot.

I have several Marriott rewards certs expiring in Sept. I was thinking about using one in Gatlinburg during our stay. Are any of the hotels within walking distance to the downtown area of Gatlinburg- no more than half mile with a paved or unpaved path or walkway?

We stayed at a new (3 years ago) Courtyard up the hill on the Historic Nature Trail. There is also a Fairfield Inn on the same hill. We enjoyed the stay. Very easy walk down the hill to the main street, restaurants and shops. The walk back up the hill is no fun - especially after being out for hours. Best bet is to take the trolley route, which takes you back around and up the hill, and then down. Easy, peasy. We learned the hard way - after 3 days.
