I contacted my doctor yesterday because I have been having gastrointestinal symptoms daily for 10 days: nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea (some days), vomiting (some days) along with fatigue and headaches due to the gatrointenstinal symtoms. The first thing she wanted me to do is get tested for Covid, which I did today. When she made this recommendation, at first I was skepital and thought maybe it was an overreaction to rule out Covid before she looked for other causes. So then I googled the topic and found somewhere from 10% to 50% of people who test positive for Covid only have gatrointenstinal symptoms and no respiratory symptoms or have both types of symptoms. Then I felt better that she asked me to get tested. If I had known about this possibility, I would have contacted her much sooner but I kept waiting for the stomach problems to go away, since I have had stomach problems in the past but never for this long. I expect my test will likely be negative but I could fall into the minority of Covid patients with no respiratory symptoms and have never thought to get tested. I have not been out anywhere since the Covid shut downs started except for essential medical services, a few grocery stores visits and getting some documents notarized. I always wear a mask, keep social distance, and wash my hands. Hopefully my test is negative and I did not spread anything unknowingly since I have only been with my DH in the past 2 weeks with virtually no other human contact. I thought I would alert folks to the possibility of getting tested even if they do not have conventional Covid symptoms. The testing process was quick and painless, to my surprise.
Here are a few articles I found about Covid with gastrointestinal symptoms only as well as mixed GI and respiratory symptoms. Has anyone else heard about this subpopulation of Covid patents?
