Any suggestions on what to do in the area of Galena IL late April? If weather report seems good, we'll bring our clubs, but that would only be for 9 holes one of the 4 full days we'll have there. Restaurant suggestions?
Looking forward to our stay at the Wyndham/Worldmark.

Be aware that on the weekend of the 26th of April, Galena will be chock full of Scouts:

We used to attend every year when I was a Boy Scout in the Chicago area. We would camp at the Mississippi Palisades park outside of Savanna IL.

DH was an Eagle Scout in Lake County! We depart the 25th so may see some early arriving attendees.
Unfortunately, 2 months after I posted here, golf is no longer an option for me. My knee finally gave way during a t/s stay at Marina Dunes after a year of pain and a diagnosis of osteoarthritis- overworked it there but was functional until the end of the week. Replacement at the end of May.

I LOVE Galena ! Nice walkable main street with variety of shopping and lots of interesting history and tours.. We did a winery tasting after a short drive into the country. Favorite evening restaurant is ''Fritz and Frites'', suggest a reservation. We've stayed at the historic DeSoto hotel downtown and enjoyed the lower level bar at the General for appetizers and beverages several times. We did a 'Ghost' tour that was a first and had fun . Have done a couple trolley tours of the historic houses.

Otto's for breakfast or lunch on the Thursday you are there.

The thing I remember of Galena was the levee built around the city with a huge gate which could be shut in times of flooding.

I earned my Eagle rank in Kane County (Old KeDeKa Council, later to become Two Rivers Council)

We went to the Worldmark in Galena a long time ago. I liked the resort. We did go to Grants house and the shops that lined the main street. We went to a few old bars for a look and settled at one on Main ST. We drove around but kind of liked the historic district. The area is a nice enough place for a short trip.
