In the Friendshare FAQ, it says:

How does FriendShare work?

1. As an Owner, you refer your Friends and Family. On your behalf, we send your referral an e-mail invitation.

2. Your Friends and Family register with Marriott Vacation Club at MarriottFriends.com.

3. Marriott Vacation Club will help your registered referral choose a vacation destination of their dreams.

4. If your referral becomes a Timeshare Owner, you may earn rewards. It´s that easy!

Does anyone know what kind of deal our friends will receive? Will they get a few nights at a resort at a great rate? Thanks!

Marketing packages for Friendshare program

Our friends received 4 nights at Desert Ridge Villas II for $329 plus they had to sit through a presentation, but they fell in love with the program and bought a biannual week. We received 20,000 points for the referral.

The same week, other friends were referred to Orlando, and they got 4 nights at a Marriott Spring Hill suites and $50 in Marriott or Disney dollars for either $299 or $349 plus they had to attend a presentation. They decided not to buy, and I received 10,000 pts for the referral.

The referral packages are great. Owners can even take advantage of them. We added three nights to our week in Phoenix at Canyon Villas last year by promising to sit through a presentation, and I think I paid $75/night for the extra 3 nights for a 1 bedroom villa. Great deal, and I received a $100 Visa card for attending the presentation. Couldn't get that kind of deal any other way.

Note, there are a couple of states where such referrals are illegal - ie, the refering person cannot be given any incentive. I know because I live in one such stae - Connecticut. Doesn't mean I can't refer someone, just that Marriott cannot reward me with anything if they buy.
