We went for our first trip there as owners in May--units have really great views for the most part--some more direct water views but from the balconies you will have a view pretty much no matter which building you are in.
The higher the floor will get you a better view but you should know that if you are in the upper buildings you will need to take elevators down two buildings--we didn't find this a problem at all.

The view is incredible from any unit; however, it is true that some are EVEN better than better. I know, I'm being dramatic, but it really is true - it's hard to find a bad view there. Open ocean, harbor, or islands - there's plenty to look at.

If you like the pool and beach, then try to get a building closer to those; otherwise, enjoy your stay - you can't go wrong.

Who should we contact to request a high floor?

Contact the front desk a week or so before your arrival. I've always received a high floor but I'm an owner. Bldg #1, Jost Van Dyke, has a good view from just about any room on any floor. The higher the better but there really aren't any obstructed views in that Bldg. The new bldg # 3 won't have any either but the first few rooms on any floor are angled southward facing the Reef hotel. There is a large Marriott sign on top of the hotel. Other than that the view is great. Bldg # 2 and # 5 can and do have some obstructed views on the lower floors in some rooms.

That is a nice surprise to wake up to!
You will get an email from Marriott the same as u do when u go to aruba that asks for any requests about 3 weeks before check-in - at that time you can 'remind' them that u r a Marriott owner trading in thru II and would like a high floor in any building.
Many people do not make any request so u will be ahead of the game.
I have never stayed here but often visit the hotel when we are on STT at BBC. The bar area we sit at overlooks the harbor and the TS resort - it is a lovely spot.

We exchanged our MAW last week in January and heard about three weeks later that our exchange for Frenchman's Cove had come in for the second week in Feb.

We are looking forward to visiting St Thomas - it will be our first visit

Was your trade a 1 BR for a 1 BR (or 2BR for 2 BR) or were you able to get a 2 BR for giving up a 1 BR? Please let us know how your week went!

I have an ongoing request...can you tell me what you traded, how long you waited? Thanks,

It only took fifteen days for my request first which came through on January 26 of this year. I traded the 2 bdrm part of my 3 bdrm Grand Chateau that I had reserved for Christmas week 51, 2010. After it came through so quickly, I kick myself for not trying to trade the 1 bdrm full villa lockoff. My MFC week is May 21-28 and am calling every day looking for a May 22 check in to coincide with my flights--am counting on this to come through in the next 2 weeks as flex time kicks in.

at Frenchman's Cove now

We arrived to a wet rainy day in STT this past Sunday. The weather has been wonderful since with only a couple of days with showers. Even though owners, we have the 3rd of 6 floors the first tower, in Building 1, Jost Van Dyke. Building 2, Virgin Gorda, also would have great views of the ocean if you are higher up.
The front desk stated that they were 100% booked for this period and could not place us in a higher floor.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Are there any tuggers here - we are here until March 18th.

status of dock, Frenchman's Cove

They are still behind schedule on the completion of the dock. At the check in, there is a sign promising the dock to be completed soon for the "enjoyment of the owners". It seems to be 2/3rds completed. Although they are not out there tonight, I noticed the work on the dock continuing until late last night, past 9pm.

We are happy with our view in Rm 133. This is our first visit to STT. Beach doesn't seem to be very crowded. Only half the chairs are used, the beach does seem to be claustrophobic due to its small/compact size. There are more people in the pool deck.

I'm an owner at FC. Bought resale .Checked in on March 13th. Put in request for Bulding 2 5th floor one year ago. Arrived and was told I was in building 2 3rd floor. Asked if they recieved my request, he said yes. Asked why 3rd floor he said occupancy was 70% to 80% FC owners and thats the way it is. Asked what I would have to do to get higher floor next time he said"same thing you did this time". Thinking maybe the "R" next to my name was the cause. Any thoughts?

A lot has been spoken about the mysterious "R" next to a resale owners name. I was told by the sales rep at FC last month that this is actually true although he stopped short of saying that it actually was disadvantageous in any way. I have no firsthand knowledge as to the veracity or existence of the "R" but I tend to doubt it. Even if it were true I don't think it affects your room assignment.

I think what landed you on the 3rd floor, an acceptable assignment in that bldg IMO, is that you requested bldg 2. If you had just requested a high floor in any bldg I think you would have done better. Spike, I know what you paid for that unit or at least what you said you paid. Be happy. There are folks two floors below you that paid more than double what you did.

Enjoy paradise!

When we were looking at buying St. Kitts direct we were told that our room request as a resale purchaser would take second place to purchasers who bought direct. Can anyone with real knowledge confirm whether how you purchased has any effect on any specific unit request that you make as far as building and floor #?

That's what I want to know to Kathy. I figured asking for a high floor(building #2 4th or 5th floor) a year in advance wouldn't be a problem. I guess people that booked 13 months out must of requested all rooms on the 4th and 5th floor in building #2 ?

Requests are just that

Not a sure thing for sure. I have put my request in at the 13 month point (own two weeks), but the property does not get your name until 30 days prior to the start of you stay. I also called that day and talked to the desk to put the request on my reservation in their system. We will see how the High floor, near elevator in building #2 works when we check in. I have elderly parents coming with us this year so I a short walk is really something to make the stay that much better for them.

Jim, I never said I was unhappy and what I said I paid is what I paid. I'm just dissapointed that I wasn't given the request that I put in a year in advance and was curious to why, being that no one at the Resort could give me an answer except "that's the way it is". Thought maybe because I bought resale might have something to do with it and wanted to know what others thought. The third floor in building 2 is an inferior view in my opinion(unless you like looking at a steeple) which is why I moved to the Tortola building(5th floor). Glad I did move as the view is spectacular. I'm having a great time and the resort is beautiful. If any one has questions let me know,Ill be here till Saturday the 20th.
