I have a vehicle that is too tall to fit in any parking garage so my plan was just to park at one of the Premium Parking lots next to the river for $35 per day Mon-Thu and $45 for Fri-Sun. I wasn't paying attention and I accidentally parked in the public parking lot next to the Westin which is $55 per day. I realized it when I went to get my car 4 days later. According to a sign they charge a flat $100 if you lose your ticket but I figured they had a way to track the duration and I wasn't trying to be dishonest anyway so I was prepared to pay the $220 and then move to Premiums's lot when I returned. My ticket got demagnetized in my wallet so the machine kiosks would not read it. There were no employees on site so I went ahead and got in my vehicle to exit hoping that the machines there would read the ticket. They would not and now I had cars behind me and I was stuck. They have a simple "Lost my ticket" button which I pushed and used my credit card to pay the $100. It's not like I had much choice.

I am not sure if it would really work out this way every time but $100 for a week of French Quarter parking is really cheap. Unlike the Premium lots where you prepay there is no in/out priviledges so it wouldn't be cheap at all if you needed to use the car much.

They prolly didn't think anyone would park there for more than a day at those rates.
Congrats on reaping the benefit of their failure to consider all the angles.
