FYI--some may find this helpful if going into PV: from PV Pulse http://www.pvpulse.com/en/news/news...king-for-a-wi-\fi-hotspot-try-the-new-malecon
Yesterday, Salvador González Reséndiz, Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, inaugurated the public Wi-Fi network covering nearly one kilometer of the new Malecon.Since last night, access to internet in the Malecon is completely free of charge, for a maximum of two hours and a working speed of 1 Mbit/s.
The initiative came from the authorities of Puerto Vallarta, and it has become a reality thanks to the support of Telmex, company that is providing the service.
According to Vallarta Opina, Mr. González said that "today, the people of Vallarta have free internet in Pitillal, Ixtapa, Las Juntas and now, the Malecon."
Making of the Malecon a Wi-Fi hotspot is a great idea that will bring even more life to this iconic seawall promenade. To provide free internet service at public areas, is common practice on progressive cities that understand the long-term benefits of bringing technology and information to their people.
But it makes even more sense in a city like Puerto Vallarta that receives millions of visitors every year. Knowing there's Wi-Fi at the Malecon, now tourists can just go to the downtown for breakfast and then decide over there what to do next, checking at their laptops or smartphones.
One can like or dislike the new Malecon, but it's undeniable that this is a step in the right direction. Well done Vallarta!
