Early this year we contacted Vacation village at Bonaventure near Weston Florida regarding a "take-back" of our 2 units. They responded by offering to take-back the units if we paid $750 per unit for the legal work. When we went ahead they lowered the price to $500 per unit and we proceeded.

After 2 years of trying to sell the units on a variety of sources, including, T.U.G., we decided it was worth $1000 to get out of $2000 of MFs & taxes. :) As they are changing the resort from weeks to points there may be room for others to get rid of their units as well.

We enjoyed our time share experience, reckon we saved money and went places we may not have otherwise gone. As we have aged & have travel difficulties we felt it was best to give up the units now. Too bad the market is over saturated and MFs rising too much making it difficult to sell what reall can be a good deal!;)

Good for you! I would have done the same. Can only hope when our time comes we will be able to make the same kind of deal with our resorts if we find it hard to give our timeshares away. Right now still young enough to continue to enjoy them.

nice to know that resort is giving owners the option to deedback weeks!

This must be a great feeling. No more maintenence fees, no more lies from timeshares sell staff and no more telephone calls at home about trying to sell your timeshare.

...no more telephone calls at home about trying to sell your timeshare.

I wouldn't be too quick to rejoice over that. I still get cold calls about a TS we sold years ago.

Now for a different point, congrats to the OP for using an economical efficient solution to get rid of a TS. It proves that you do not have to pay a transfer company, questionable law firm, charity, or Viking Ship operation thousands of dollars to get you out of your TS.:)

Being rid of your timeshare has to be a great feeling. That being said, I wish it were me. I recently contacted Hyatt to see if I could sell or just deedback my timeshare at Hyatt Windward Pointe in Key West, but was told that they do not have either of those options available. I have had the TS since 2007 and have enjoyed the ability to travel extensively by exchanging through II, but now my husband does not travel and it is much harder for me to travel solo. What are my best options now? Any assistance is appreciated.

Hi Jonny, welcome to TUG!

what efforts have you made thusfar to try to sell or give it away to another owner?

here is our how to sell and avoid the scams article to get started!

It isn't easy to get rid of unwanted Weeks. You have to work at it. It took me almost 3 years to divest myself of 7 Weeks. In the interim I used them, let friends use them, rented them, exchanged them, etc. I donated two Weeks to charities (back when it was doable); gave one away; sold two; and did two Deed Backs. It takes work and focus.
