My mother passed away earlier this year and am looking to give away her 2 BR 2 Bath timeshare in Kitty Hawk NC.

Maintenance fees were $653 this year(paid) and are paid July 1st each year.

This years week is a Sunday check in Dec 15th-22nd and is free.

It looks like my mother was using RCI weeks for this timeshare she had 5 total and I am not too familiar with how the process works.

All closing costs and/or transfer fees will be paid by the seller.

Jeff,

condolences on the loss of your mother. If you do not find a taker please be sure to reach out to the resort and inform them of her passing to request that you surrender her ownership back to the resort (assuming she is the only owner that was listed on the deed)

Agreed he should do this I feel like even if there are takers because why should she pay transfer fees vs just surrendering for free

Thank you Brian. I have reached out to the resort to see if there was a way to surrender it back or a deed back program and there isn't. My mom put myself and my sister on the deed years ago when my dad passed thinking we would use it as much as her and my dad did. So the ownership falls to us now.

please note that you dont just become owners for this due to the death of your parents (assuming you arent already on the ownership).

as the executor of the estate (or the person just taking care of things) sure you should make an effort to dispose of it...hopefully directly to the resort or a willing taker for free...but please do not feel that you are suddenly now the new owners moving forward!

My mother put both myself and my sister on the deed after my dad passed. So the deed lists all three of us as owners.

ah drat, thats certainly no bueno and can throw a wrench into the plans to surrender it back to the resort.

though it still costs nothing to try and explain the situation to them!

That was done and I got no where with them. I started asking questions about surrendering it to them while my mom was in hospice.
