This maybe in the wrong place but I ask here because Hyatt Siesta Key is nice and it never (rarely) becomes available through HRC from what I read. So curious, we all obviously love vacationing, so why not a Fractional Ownership? You actually own a piece of the property?

Now I have looked into it and for some reason the math doesn't work when you compare to renting the units from owners vs paying the initial amount and HOA fees. What am I missing?

I ask because exchanging through II doesn't always gets me what I'm looking for as far as nice beach resorts (blue water) and Siesta through HRD seems like a pipe dream.

Any Fractional Owners out there in the timeshare world?

Yes, there are a few on TUG. I looked into it on Kauai about ten years ago. There are some for sale but I just didn’t like how the dates rotated each year on the ones I saw listed. I believe there were some where you had the same two months every year. I ended out getting more timeshare weeks. I rent them but still use some now tat we live here and own a condo on Molokai.

So ten years later hindsight 20/20 would you still go timeshare route?

How is the value and HOA fees of the one you were looking at?

Yes, I still would. My plan was to spend about three months in Hawaii during the winter when I retired, if I couldn’t move there. Well, two years ago we ended out buying a condo on Molokai and last year I was able to transfer here with the company I have worked for 36 years.

I will look for a listing and post the link here in a few minutes. I’m sure there are still some available. That way you can see what I was looking at.

I still think this would work for a lot of people. Especially if you can get one with the dates you want. It would be cheaper than timeshares.

You also have to watch what they allow if you can’t use your time. You can usually give to a guest but some don’t allow you to rent them out.

We own a Fractional Condo (1/13th) in Seaside, Oregon. It is 1 week per Quarter. The weeks are on a rotating basis (shift backwards by a week each year) so no one gets all the holidays. Three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Every 13th year you lose a week to maintenance. If the year has 53 weeks then a drawing is held to see who gets the extra week, But the names of the people that have won in the past are not included.
