We are enjoying our oceanfront timeshare on the Outer Banks this July 4th week, but the differential on gas prices here is the worst I have seen it. Usually the difference between beach prices and home is about 5 to 10 cents. The gas stations here are charging $4.66 to $4.69 / gallon. We filled up at $4.17 / gallon when we left home, also in eastern North Carolina. That is a 50 cent difference.

What are Tuggers seeing elsewhere?

According to your profile, "home" is "eastern Europe". That is a heck of a drive to the Outer Banks...

$4.99 in Cincinnati area (4.79 at Costco). This is down .30 from two weeks ago. Don't expect any relief. Lawsuits from environmental groups have tied up drilling in Gulf of Mexico where the few new leases were finally issued.

I am home in Maryland after being away 5/27-6/26. When I left gas was at $4.99. It was around $4.75 when I got home and is now around 4.65. While in Myrtle Beach from 6/13-6/25 it bounced around fluctuating from $4.40 down to $4.17 at the cheaper stations and 10-30 cents higher at the more expensive stations. Driving home on 6/25 it immediately went up to $4.80-$4.90 in both North Carolina and Virginia. I checked South Carolina wasn't having any kind of gas tax holiday. It was just 20-40 cents cheaper per gallon and that was pretty much up and down 17 business and 17 bypass from Murrell's to North Myrtle.

We are still above $5 is AZ. I'm trying to remember seeing prices as cheap as yours - April? Though, prices do seem to have abated a bit. Still, I'm waiting until next weekend, after the holiday, to fill up.

One of the things that struck me was the larger than usual differential between beach prices and prices of gas at home. Five to ten cents is usual, but now it is fifty cents difference. We are talking about 100 miles away within the same state.

$5.30 hereabouts. Up about a quarter in the last month and still rising. Sure puts a cramp on a road trip- and flying is no better.

$4.28 at Costco in Wichita, KS. $4.45/gallon at non-Costco stations.

I had noticed prior to all this gas price inflation that Costco was consistently 5 cents/gallon cheaper than local stations. Afterwards It seems to fluctuate between 10 and 20 cents per gallon. I think there’s a little profit taking or gouging going on at the local stations around town.
