My nephew's family visited one of the National Parks this past week during school vacation, courtesy of a program that gives free admission to every fourth grader and their families.

Check out everykidinapark.gov ("An official website of the United States Government.")

Or, nationalparks.org.

My daughter got hers before our trip to Hawaii over the holidays; this summer, my mother is taking her out west to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, etc. Since she is always with my mother (who has a senior pass,) she really *didn't* need it, but she wanted to have her own.

*Every* time she showed it to a gate agent, they reacted as though she had just presented them with Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket! It was a hoot! They get so excited about every 4th grade pass.

Definitely worth signing your 4th grader up, even if just for that reaction. :)
