While there are lots of flights each day that experience NO Covid-19 cases, it does reinforce our reluctance to fly anywhere, on any airline, for at least the next few months. We cancelled plans to visit family in Vancouver and Victoria next month. Hopefully we can do it next year, but that is certainly not guaranteed.

I need to see how airlines will handle this and how common outbreaks might be. Airlines thinking of filling the middle seats on 3- and 4-seat configurations should really re-think their strategy. We will certainly boycott those aircraft. Even where we can pick a 2-seat configuration, and have to wear masks, every extra hour spent on a mostly full aircraft increases the risk.

I thought we weren’t flying from US to Canada yet? Also not to UK or any international flights, did this status change?

We're not allowed into Canada, but there are exceptions. There may also be Canadian citizens returning from the U.S.

We are allowed into the UK (but need to self quarantine for 14 days) since that is not part of the EU. But just because we're not allowed doesn't mean the planes won't fly.

All non-essential travel to Canada (e.g. tourism, casual visits, etc.) is currently prohibited from ANY foreign country, not just the USA. As Luanne says, there are exceptions for returning Canadian citizens, permanent residents and "essential" business or commercial travel, plus a few other exceptions, such as certain close family members of Canadian citizens. In any case, the fact that a flight exists does not mean it is necessarily full.

There are no restrictions on domestic (intra-Canadian) travel, although many domestic routes are currently shut down or very limited. Also. any flights originating from places other than the US, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, must use one of only four airports: Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver. So if any Covid-19 tests show up, they are more likely to be in one of those four airports.

Friends flew from Lisbon to Montreal this week. They had COVID tests and still are quarantining for 2 weeks.Returning will be the same .

Just to clarify, I assume your friends are Canadian citizens? Otherwise, they would not have been permitted to board the plane, nor enter, unless under one of the exempt categories. If so, yes, even Canadian citizens must enter a full 14-day quarantine in an approved location and may not leave that location during the quarantine period for ANY reason, other than medical necessity. Any water, food, medicine or other necessities must be pre-arranged or delivered.
