In mid-April, we were at Wyndham Cypress Palms in Orlando, where my daughter found a beautiful ring in the hot tub. We turned it in to security staff, but by the end of the week it hadn't been claimed. Management said after 2-3 months, they sell lost and found items for charity, and that kind of stinks: I'd really love for the owner to be able to reclaim it!

It was a lovely large amethyst stone with small diamonds on a 14K yellow gold band. A unique inscription on the inside of the band will help the rightful owner lay claim to it. Here's hoping someone might know someone and this can be found!

Have you searched social media to see if anyone has posted it as lost - especially the inscription?

That's so nice of you to turn it in. Bless you and your family and btw you're raising your kid right! A child I took in for a week to give her dad a break stole my wedding ring years ago, and then she lost it (or so she claimed) at a NC timeshare where we took her and her brother for vacay. (If you wonder why I took my ring off at home...I had really bad red ant bites from gardening, so I took my ring off and put in on my dresser, on a ring holder I have for costume jewelry-type rings. I never ever thought a kid would steal from me in my own bedroom!)

In your case, I honestly believe that if that amethyst ring isn't claimed in three months, that you... as part of the "finders keepers" rule... should be allowed to keep it, and not have it go to "charity" which could mean any ol person working at that resort who gets access to the lost and found dept. Sorry to be jaded, but my mother's wedding ring was stolen off her finger by a cop who responded to 911 when she died at home. He of course denied it. I don't trust easily after all this. Not when it comes to personal treasures like wedding and memento rings, where the emotional value is hard to put a price on.

We found a big diamond ring at a casino worth about $10,000. We told the casino staff in charge of this stuff about the ring but didn't elaborate or leave it. We had no calls. Every day on that trip we checked in to see if any one had asked about it. We still have it. It is in my collection of stuff I found treasure hunting. I have found maybe 30+ watches, 100's of jewelry items, phones, keys, coins and many other things with the best find, imo, being my own keys.

Only once have I found an owner to a find. She was so happy and grateful that she wanted to give me a cash reward. I didn't want the reward which made her actually break down and cry. It was odd to have someone crying over not having to part with their money. I thought the reaction should have been just plain old happy. She was smiling while crying so maybe menopause ?

The last sentence wasn't meant to offend anyone. It is just an observation from having a wife with four sisters. Sorry.

I found a loose diamond on the restroom of my midwife's office the day I went into labor. We turned it into the front desk (it had clearly fallen out of someone's ring,) but I always thought that is was some kind of positive sign (both that we found it, and that we turned it in, even though no one had called/inquired asking about it.)
