If one wants to do an 8-hour trip in London, what Marriott would be the best to see the most sites, highly preferably by foot or public transit (very short trips if possible)?

I am asking as we may have a connection through London in late November that gets into London around 10:30AM (Sunday) and need to depart the next morning (Monday) around 9AM. We want to make the most of our stay.

Thanks!

By the time you take a train into town, you won't have time to see very much. I'd definitely try to extend the layover. There is so much to see in London.
However, if you can only stay for that length of time then I'd stay at the Park Lane or Grosvenor House and catch the "Hop-on, Hop-off" tourist bus for a tour of the city. It will take you past the highlights of the city.

My recommendation for first timers to London is County Hall - it's on the Thames, right next to the London Eye, Westminster Bridge and Big Ben...and walking distance to Buckingham Palace. You really do need more time - but I'm sure you'll make the most of it.

I second County Hall -- walk to most everything.

Thanks all for the input. After DW and I relooked at this more including the fact that flying through London adds quite a few more costs for the one day and having more favorable FF seats show up last night (after posting this thread), we decided to add one additional night to our week stay in Paris and fly directly back to the US.

Looks like County Hall will be near the top of our list when we make our London trip!

I'm assuming you got an air+hotel pkg for the Paris trip. Not so depressing after all. :)

actually using a hotel from a air/hotel travel package from a year ago. we would have ordered a new one IF we stayed for two full weeks in Europe...but we just could not make that happen. too many considerations.
