Has anyone made a successful donation to the Florida Veterans Assistance Association? Were there any problems encountered?

ALL of the entities who accept timeshare "donations" for a large fee, are pseudo charities that donate the minimum to charity, and then pocket most of the money they collect.

They also claim that you can take a tax write off for "donating" to them, which is not true.

A very similar company is currently being investigated by the Attorney General and IRS for fraudulent business practices.

As Brian said - give it away yourself, and save some money and potential problems.

Give it away

I would love to give it away but I can't find anyone who wants it. Got any ideas?

Not that I would recommend using them but, if you're still looking for the answers to your questions, I would use the Search function and look for threads with Florida Veterans in the title. There are several threads discussing this.

We did some years ago. It did cost us cash and took quite a while but we were ale to get rid of it, That was before the TUG Bargain forum, which is great .

However, our latest problem was that from the Bargain Forum we had two buyers but our resort would not approve either of them,,..poor credit they said, which was ridiculous especially in one case.

Oh for the "Good Old Days" 5 - 10 years ago when you could give Weeks to Charities often at no cost. Back then I would buy a Week for next to nothing; use it 2 or 3 years; then give it away. I think I did this 7 or 8 times.

Never encountered this before in a private resale. It seems very small-minded for a resort HOA to render any such judgement on a private, non-financed transaction.
After all, if the new owner can't make the maintenance fees, then they can't access the property --- and if they can't access the property why would they have even sought to willingly take ownership of the interval in the first place?

Viking Ships and bogus LLC's are one thing, but a real, live, willing person who only needs to make their maintenance fee payments is quite another. Perhaps the small-minded resort HOA would prefer abandonment and the headache and expense of foreclosure instead as an alternative?

Yes, that resort was unbelievable in its demands and it is not even a good one.

What is the difference? Putting it in someone elses name may be a way to dump it. I am surprised a resort can deny a resale sale. Done the right way it can make a resort stronger.
