I am so pissed about this!!! Florida is nowhere near ready for this IMO. [redacted] I might be wrong but I'll make the prediction that Florida is going to see a mass resurgence of Covid-19. My daughter lives near the Orlando area and I'm just praying she stays healthy. She's on the front lines in the grocery industry and I'm worried about her. This kind of stupid crap really makes my blood boil because these people obviously have no common sense nor do they appear to care about anyone about themselves.

I wonder if they've done an infection baseline in these areas so they can track how fast more people get sick?

I understand that people want to get back to normal as soon as possible. I do too! But one thing is for sure, don't make me quarantine again. I swear if we have to do this again in a few months I'm going to lose my marbles.

Santa Cruz County in California opened its beaches too. I think re-opening beaches is a positive thing.

Around here people are dying to get back on the beach because all the shells have not been picked up for so long. I don't think we're open down here yet.

I like the idea of ending SAH/SIP. The people that go out will be happier to have more choices in life. They accept the risk of getting infected and perhaps killing themselves or those around them. But they will be helping the economy for everybody.

As for me, I intend to continue staying at home and buying things online. So I think this is a win-win for both groups of people.

Arguments will arise if some in the family want to go out frequently, while others want to stay safe at home.

As long as people socially distance this will work. I heard it is only in the morning and evening hours for exercise and no coolers and sitting on the beach allowed, so this should work unless there are too many people. I just wish there were more masks readily available just in case.

We cannot keep people cooped up in their homes for a year or there will be civil unrest.

As far as those that broke their SIP in cars to join protest crowds, or those at the beach who break SIP...well...that's Darwinism at work.

Unfortunately open beaches will get crowded. Those who go will have a higher risk of contracting the virus, thus the virus will spread. More will get it and the medical symptom will get overwhelmed. This will affect those who are taking precautions as they will not have access to the medical system for other needs too.

Whereas I agree we must move forward, taking precautions, opening the beaches Imo is lunacy at this point. Imo It is going to be a hard lesson learned. We soon can be worse off then before.

It would be one thing if they were just risking their own lives, but if they catch the virus and spread it, they're risking the lives of others too. I have a daughter and a SIL that are both nurses at a large hospital in St. Paul. They can't get the PPE they need to protect themselves, and MN is nowhere near their peak. The cases are just starting to ramp up.

Florida is full of crazy people
Most stories start with “ a Florida.... “

I think if you keep them locked up the crazy will only get worse. And maybe the police are already seeing it??

I moved there in 08 from MN and have hated living there ever since

[Personal comment removed] I live in Florida, I prefer to stay inside and live. If you go out, you infect people who can infect me when I spend the limited time getting food etc.

Opening beaches is very problematic depending on the use of those beaches. Beaches in FL and HI are always crowded when the weather is good. The pictures show the invincible, the young, congregating in large groups in Jacksonville.
On Oregon beaches, they are seldom crowded like that because of the much cooler weather and cold water. Maybe in FL there aren't other outdoor activities that are safe. Here we have walking, bike riding, etc. I avoid people on both.

I’m ok with this if they also waive their right to medical treatment if they get covid-19. It’s not fair to burden the men and women who are working every day on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Santa Cruz is like Oregon right now. More bike riders and walkers because water is freezing and still too cold to sit on the beach.

I think this idea that if you go outside, that you will die is ridiculous. The health experts say that most people who get covid are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. That of the people who get sick, 98%+ survive. It is likely much more due to lack of testing. Even most older people recover. Some experts are saying it could actually be less than 1%. I am not a believer of living in fear.

Opening beaches is a good thing BUT people who are not from the same household need to continue to social distance.
And how do we ensure that? With the pictures emerging (assuming they are real) they are not in the first day.

Just my opinion, but we haven't seen the beginning of how this SIP is impacting people. It's been about a month. When people are out of work with no money and nothing to do, mischief is going to start happening. People are already protesting and I'm sure we'll see some sort of unrest or a riot soon. We have a hand full of areas with very widespread outbreaks in concentrated urban areas. Most of the country aren't having issues with hospitals. If we don't let people get a little more back to normal soon, things are going to really start going south quickly. Going to a beach, behaving properly and keeping safe seems like a good idea to me. If you are scared of the virus, please stay at home.

And furthermore, go back and ask yourself WHY we put all of these quarantines in place. We thought that it was going to be the mother of all pandemics. Now people are finding out that those statistics don't add up. People are going to continue to get angry.

I heard that the reality of contacting Covid is with prolonged contact. Walking by someone at the beach is not prolonged contact. Yes, I am sure it can happen but it is less likely. If it were so easy to contact covid, then 100% of front line workers would have it.

No worse than people hovering in grocery stores and this is outdoors. In another post, in limited tests, they have established that the virus dies quickly under sunlight. Being outdoors is far better than sharing the same air with others in an enclosed air-conditioned store. If people want to leave their home because of cabin fever it is far better to let them go out to the beach than shop hop around Home Depot and Walmart.
