Wife and I are flying AA, JFK/MIA/RSW in jan. All flights are showing very light load, particularly the last leg home MIA/JFK. It's the last flight out and as of today is showing only about 30 seats sold. I wouldn't be surprised if it was cancelled and am curious what AA is doing under these circumstances which would be a 10 hour layover. Food, lodging or TS? I might be able to get into LGA but will they get me back to my car at JFK? AA cancelled my AUA/JFK last year and gave us soup to nuts but am wondering if they are still doing the "right thing" lately.

It's likely that AA will still give you "soup to nuts" if they cancel the flight because of a mechanical problem or because there aren't enough passengers, assuming they admit that's the reason. However, if they cancel because of weather (perhaps somewhere else that affects your flight) or because crew can't get there because of weather somewhere, you'll be on your own for hotel and food.

Quick perusal of flightstats shows that a/c turning for the early morning MIA or SJU run. Doubt they'll cancel it as that would likely put the a/c out of position.

I haven't flown as much as Dave but in nearly .75MM miles of flying, mostly on UA, I've never had a cxl for low pax load, rather always wx or mx.

Thanks, I don't recall seeing light loads like this before. Even the popular afternoon MIA/JFK is wide open. I'll watch this one carefully, don't want to spend the night in the MIA airport (unless it's the MIA hotel).

I think it was AA who canceled our last leg from Philly to NH last winter, no reason given. They called to tell us they could get us to Boston. Great, except our car would be parked at the Manchester park/fly hotel, already booked. It turned out prices had gone down since we booked, so after going through several supervisors, I got them to cancel the original tickets and just rebook us through Boston both ways. They were not going to pay for us to stay overnight in Philly even though the flight time had been 10 pm.

As long as we're whining about cancellations...
A couple of years back, we left Rome, IT, at 6AM (their time), stopped in Amsterdam, and arrived in Newark ~ 4PM (EST), only to find that Delta had cancelled their turn-arounds from Atlanta, citing "weather" in Atlanta.

They tried to put us on Continental, but after we'd made 3 "stand-by" circuits of the Newark airport, rebooked us for 7AM, told us where to find our luggage and said that we were on our own till then.

We collapsed at a ridiculously expensive hotel, called Delta for an afternoon flight and our employers. That after 10 days in Italy, we were stuck in Newark was to us, the lathe of heaven in action.
