This happened right near the Timeshare. Please download the lightning tracker app and if visiting this time of year look to see how far away lightning is before going out.

Yikes!
I love this resort.
Sadly there is no fast and easy way to get off that lonnnng stretch of beach if lightning is in the area.
They need to put up those sirens like they have on Marco Island.
Scary.

Several years ago at night we were in the Spa at Worldmark Seaside Oregon visiting with folks. We were all enjoying the light show (Lightening) far out over the Sea. Saddening there was a Bolt directly overhead. No delay between light and Boom. We all levitated out of the Spa and ran inside just as the AGM came running out to warn all of us to get inside.

Sirens for lightning? FPL and Fort Myers Beach have had a difficult time even restoring functional street lighting since Hurricane Ian — sirens for lightning there might just be wishful thinking for quite some time to come.

Was at Ko Olina in May and there were huge thunderstorms, continuous lightning with less than 5-10 seconds between flash and thunder. This means lightning is between 1-2 miles away. Most standards for public events say get to safety if under 8 miles, which is 40 seconds. Despite this and security going around the resort, people stayed at beach and pools.

Eventually cell came overhead and lightning strikes were hitting ground around the resort. By this time, thankfully most people had moved indoors. Lightning hit the power plant a few miles north of Ko Olina and no power for about 6 hours.

People are crazy when it comes to lightning.

I don't know what government agency is responsible for putting them up but now is the time to do it.
I was surprised when I heard them on Marco.
I thought they were for tornados so kept freaking out, but they were just for lightning, go figure.
Must be nice to have money to burn. LOL

They sure are.
They don't have the healthy respect that they should have for lightning that's for sure.
My family makes fun of me because I'm always telling them that I don't want to be a
"Human lightning rod" and to get off the beach or out of the pool.
I used to work ICU and saw my share of lightning patients and it ain't pretty.
They got me a t-shirt at Dollywood from the Lightning rod ride, thought it was so funny.
