i have to check out the Maui warehouse before our audit in October so I head out tomorrow morning and come back Friday evening.

Staying at the Marriott Courtyard by the airport. It’s only a mile and a half from the warehouse.

My wife and I went to the Marriott Courtyard in Oahu for dinner tonight. It’s only a half a block from where we live and it has a nice Italian restaurant in there with pretty good early bird specials.

My wife said today that she’s actually getting used to the place now and she’s gone out a couple times by herself and walked around. She’s definitely liking some of the benefits of Waikiki.

I'm surprised your wife is not insisting you take her with you?
One of the best benefits of that Courtyard by Marriott on Maui--it's right by the Costco (practically in its parking lot, IIRC.) Them's good dinner choices, right there! *That* Costco has its own poke bar. #notinmyCostco

Okay, I'll shut up now.

My global network has an affiliate on Maui. But the work each of us does is hyper-local and dependent on local connections and relationships. And we're all independent of each other. So it's not like I can transfer like you could. So I am wicked jealous, is all. :)

Well I am so glad to hear that you wife is starting to enjoy some of the benefits of Waikiki. We didn't pick it for our next and final home without living there for about 40 months over the last 11 years and finding it as the place for us. I would much rather be in Waikiki than Maui. Soon your wife will be walking down Kalakaua everyday enjoying all the stores, shops and people; if you are good you can join her on weekends or at night when your not working.

Unfortunately, right now she can only do about 4 blocks because of her hip. She will definitely be getting a second opinion on that while we are here and hopefully she can get it taken care of.

She is telling me everyday about how she is getting used to things and things she enjoys seeing. It’s growing on her.

The Courtyard was nice and convenient. I had a burger in the Bistro last night and a small breakfast this morning. Close to work too.

I know exactly how she feels. When we first went to Honolulu we thought that Waikiki was Disney for Adults. Now we just feel that it is our special place in the world.

Made it back to Honolulu. Now I can see what my wife did while I was gone for two days. We may head to the beach tomorrow.

:):)
It really is hard to believe that this is my life now. I must admit it was nice flying over to Maui for a couple days. Even though I really didn’t get out much.

We tried to stop at Da Kitchen but it was too crowded so we ate lunch at Poi by the Pound. Very good Hawaiian food.

Well my wife felt pretty good when I got home and we walked all the way to Kalakaua Ave an had dinner at Tim Ho Wan, the Dim Sum Specialists.

Supposed to be a street fair today so we’ll see if my wife can make it all the way to Waikiki Beach this morning.

We have been to the street fairs down Kalakaua many times. They are fun and there is lots of food. We usually go to Maui Brewing Company for a couple of strong beers first during happy hour 3:30-5:30 first and then to the street fair to eat.

We ended out being early so we enjoyed lunch at Dukes. My wife made it down to the beach and back. She’s tired and sore but she made it.

That dumpling place, tho...*grabby hands*

We should have ordered more dumplings. :)

I can’t believe it but my wife walked back down to the Street fair tonight and she walked it a little better the second time than the first. She bought a brace that straps around her hip and leg. So she did very well today. She was going slow but she made it. :cheer:

She did want to rest so we went to the Maui Brewing Company instead of street food. But we had a coconut water and a pineapple smoothie on the street.

I don't know the degree of the problem with you wife hips. She very well may need an operation and needs to see a good orthopedic Surgeon to make the decision.

However, as I mentioned before my husband tore his meniscus in a car accident 20 years ago and couldn't walk at all after it. Barely to the bathroom and to the car right outside our door on Long Island for about a month. In 6 months after some healing and physical therapy he could walk much better but not too far. He does exercises with weights for his legs a couple of times a week and walks all over Waikiki and Honolulu now, although cautiously in VERY CUSHIONED HOKA SNEEKERS to ease the impact.

If your wife lived with easy car transportation like we do on Long Island she never walks. She is now walking since Waikiki is soooo walkable and enjoyable. She is exercising and using her legs like she never did at home. Perhaps she needs to get some very cushioned HOKA's. HOKA's come is varied cushioning; my husband always get PLUSH. They sell them in Honolulu. The favorite place that my husband gets them is Uyeda at 931 University Avenue, Phone 1-808-941-1331. That is a easy car ride for you and there is parking. It is right near the corner of King and University. The other place we have seen them is at a shoe/sneaker store on Lewers on the Makai side of Kalakaua. It is on the PH Chang/Diamond Head side of Lewers. We walk by there all the time but there is NO PARKING.

Your wife very well may need a operation. However, if she is going to walk she may as well be as comfortable as possible. The shoes do make a difference to my husband.

She has tried different shoes with mixed results. She said she slept great last night so some daily walking may help.

She will be going to the doctor when my insurance officially switches over for her but so far so good. She really had a good time yesterday.

She’s not much of a shopper but she even picked up one of the Koa watches at Martin and MacArthur yesterday. She’s wanted one for a long time.

I don't wear a watch since being retired :) but I could certainly find use for something else in koa wood from that store.

So long as she is sleeping well and feeling ok she should walk as much as possible. The better shape she is in will make recovery from surgery (If needed) easier.

I really think this will help so we’ll see. After yesterday she’s not as tentative about walking either. Quite a few years ago she broke her ankle and then almost to the day a year later she broke the same ankle. She has been very cautious walking ever since.

After trying on at least 8 watches and making them pull out every one that had, this is the one my wife decided on. :)

32A0B83F-847D-4E85-B274-2E397BE7E673.jpeg

She loves it and that what counts. She said it is much lighter than the one she had.

Having the Packer game finish at 10:30am is something I’ll have to get used to also. :) Sunday night football starts at 2 pm also. I’ll get used to it.

Wow, your wife has had a lot of problems with her legs no wonder she is so tentative about walking. I have to believe that the atmosphere in Waikiki is so conducive to walking that she is more motivated to walk than anytime in her life. As I said we spoke of Waikiki as Disney for Adults.

I know you said that your wife tried different shoes with mixed results. However, my husband trys on shoes in stores all the time and walks around the store. If he doesn't feel the good cushioning that he gets from the cushioned Hoka's that he has now he tells the sales person and walks out. Not all Hoka's have the "Plush" cushioning the my husband likes. I asked him about the the Hoka shoe models that he likes the cushioning on that they sell now and he said they are call Bondi 6. They have women's as well as men's sizes. There may be other Hoka's that she can try on that have good "Plush" cushioning but keep in mind it is the cushioning that she needs for walking not the style or color. She should try a pair on and walk in the store. If they don't give her a good cushioned feel then don't get them. She should go on the Hoka website and peruse the shoes they have for women. On the site she needs to concentrate on the ones that have "Plush Cushioning" since some models have other type of cushioning that my husband feels are too hard and unforgiving.

Aloha
