Never been to NOLA...if one does NOT want to go for Mardi Gra..what is the BEST time to visit? I've heard alot about heat/humidity/etc.

Also, best place to stay to be able to walk to what is going on?

Any tips & suggestions welcome!

Yes Hot and Humid.. especially in the summer. A Florida boy like myself is ok with it,, folks from the west not so much. This place is at or even below sea level and was built on high spots in a swamp.

There is no place you can stay where you can walk to everything, but
Club La Pension and the Quarter House are just inside the French Quarter near Canal St. Wyndhams La Belle Maison is a great facility and is located Downtown, just across Canal from the French Quarter

I like Avenue Plaza, located in the Garden District, Its right on the Streetcar line which makes everything convenient to you. Avenue Plaza has the bigger better courtyard and pool and a rooftop deck, and you dont have to step over the drunks and dodge the prostitutes as you are coming home, like at the Quarter House

I loved being there in December. There are free jazz concerts available in many churches. The decorations are beautiful The crowds are low and when we were there in 2012, the weather was perfect.

We went at the end of September and the weather was perfect. I second the recommendation for Avenue Plaza. It was in a beautiful area and was so convenient to everything via the trolley.

Although we've never stayed at Avenue Plaza, we really like the location of La Belle Maison and the ability to walk to the French Quarter for dining, shopping, Harrah's, etc. And then back to the resort in a quiet area to sleep...

As far as time of the year, we're tied to a school schedule, so only been able to visit in January and the summer. Summers are hot and humid. We're used to that, so it's not a problem. January is cold in NOLA by South Florida standards, so even though we're going back this January, we're bringing winter clothes.

If I had the option, I think the fall or the spring would be nice.

We were there for 2 weeks in October 2015 and except for 1 day of rain the weather was great. During the first week there was a Food abd Music Fest at the large city park. During the second week there was a Blues and Barbecue Fest at the park in the Cental Business District. Then there is the weekly music at Louis Armstrong Park. We stayed at Avenue Plaza and with the St Charles Avenue street car everything is close. Spend time on Frenchmen Street.
