Looking for advice in preparation for our first visit to Harborside. There are 5 of us (wife and 3 of 4 of our kids)

We enjoy exploring and the many beaches; Looks like the island is sizeable enough to need a vehicle, are there local rent-a-car (like St. Johns) or just rent at the airport? other method?

What restaurants are favorites, well priced for families (teenagers and young adults)?

What might delight a first-timer, that only well experienced Tugger will know?

Thanks!

Many first timers wouldn't venture out in a rental car. While the island is generally safe, there are some not so safe areas. Driving is also on the left. Depending on how many days you are there, there is more than enough to see and do on Paradise Island and Atlantis. You can perhaps catch a taxi or the water taxi over to downtown Nassau. Restaurants will be cheaper in downtown as everything at Atlantis is expensive beyond believe. There is a decently priced restaurant called Anthony's across from the Atlantis marketplace shops that is a short walk. We ate there several times when we went last year. Also realize that there is a 10% VAT added to everything and all restaurants will add a 15% service charge.

Atlantis is like any high end resort
The restaurants are generally more expensive
Think Disney, Universal Studios, Vegas Hotels
There are places like Shake Shack, the snack bars at the water park that are less expensive
But not cheap
Unless you are used to driving on the left in heavy traffic forget about renting a car

Get a reservation at Carmines (before you get there - it does book up) for early in your trip, it is family style and you will have leftovers to enjoy later in the week! We also take out a side order of meatballs and cook spaghetti in the room for another dinner.

Last time we were there we booked the island tour with ATV's through bowcarbahamas.com - really enjoyed it and got to see some of the island we haven't before. They come and pick you up at the resort.
