Hello,

We have recently signed up to attend an initial visit to the Scottsdale resort. We have been interested in annual vacations with the family and thought a timeshare might be our best bet. I am hoping that someone can provide me an idea of what we will be getting into during the presentation and what kind of deal I should consider or should I walk away during the initial visit knowing the offer will still be available? When reviewing the "ballpark numbers" it is saying $44,000 for 200,000 points? Is this estimate accurate?

Welcome to TUG! You should consider NO purchase- especially from the developer. Before you go, visit eBay, enter the resort in the search window, and look over the offers. Resale timeshares are exactly the same as developer sales except at much lower price. Look down the left side and click on 'completed sales'. This will let you see what has actually sold at this resort. Print out some of the ads and take them with you. When the sales pressure gets too intense- and it probably will- just show the salesweasel what resales cost at his resort and challenge him to match the deal. Then head to gifting for whatever they've offered you to endure their lie-fest.

We suggest newbies try several resorts in different systems so you get a feel for what level of luxury you really need, and what you're willing to pay for it. Different systems have resorts in different locations. It doesn't make sense to buy into a system that has more locations on the East coast if you live in the West.

Stick around. Ask questions. We're a fairly friendly bunch who've guided lots of folks on how to vacation for less money.
