First time at Elara

Hi All,
This was our first stay at Elara and wow, very nice. I had a lot of questions when I booked so thought I'd just give an update. We usually stay at the Flamingo location and were very happy with it. Actually we still like that location much better but this is not bad. Walking out into the Miracle Mile shops and getting to Planet Hollywood without having to go outside is nice since we usually come in the winter.

But as rooms and resort go? Elara hands down. The room, one bedroom grand plus, is much bigger. And the view, well that just makes it. We are on floor 51 facing North. The floor to ceiling windows are fabulous. Having my morning coffee looking at the Eiffel tower (as I type this) is a nice start to the day. I asked and the "plus" puts us on the 50th floor and above (which really isn't true because there are no floors in the 40's). Never once waited for an elevator. They are in two banks, the one we took was like for floor 38 and higher or something similar.

The room we are in is not remodeled. They said they are doing 5 floors at time and they are not necessarily starting at the top down. But, the room is in great shape. If I didn't know they were remodeling I'd think this was a newer room.

The pool looks nice and they said there is a hot tub just for owners not that it probably matters. I get the feeling that this place has a lot more renters than the Flamingo does. But it is December and we are not going to the pool :)

We attended our first owner's meeting yesterday. We've never done it before but we wanted to see some of the other rooms. Our rep showed us one of the true 2 bedroom units, not a lock off. It was on the corner of the 57th floor. Wow is all I can say. Not sure the point cost but it is fabulous and of course it was a remodeled unit. The bed is in the corner so you have views all around. Just wow. Of course it was also on the 57th floor and height really does matter in this location.

I was upfront and told him I didn't want anymore points that I actually rescue every year as I don't use them all. Between that and when he saw we purchased resale, the conversation was over in about 5 minutes. They "closer" didn't even want to come over, lol. So we are seeing Jersey Boys on Tuesday after about a 20 min tour and a 10 min talk (with refreshments).

So overall, it was a great choice for us. Would I go back to Flamingo, absolutely, especially for the points difference. This unit cost 2,000 more points than the Flamingo. And we really do like the Flamingo location much better. But wow, these windows are worth it alone :). I would only stay here using a "plus" unit because the height really makes a difference in the view.

Elara is like a true resort hotel (minus the spa) and the Flamingo is just a really comfortable place to stay. We are not party people and usually come for a week and just take our time so the Flamingo works. It feels very comfortable to us. But damn, these windows are awesome!

I'm here for another few days so if you have any questions just let me know.

Hi All,

We just returned from a stay at the HGVC Strip location over Thanksgiving. We stayed in the past at the Elara (unremodeled room) and liked it too. We really liked the Strip environment except it is not as close as the Elara to shopping and the action. With that said the points difference is not worth it for the Elara for us given we go off the strip to visit family in the area.

How do the Flamingo and Karen Ave. resorts compare?

CalGal, here's a comparision I did between Elara and Flamingo on another thread. http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1826198#post1826198

The Karen Ave property isn't even on my radar. The location is just too isolated compared to either Flamingo or Elara. Since the points are the same between Karen Ave and Flamingo, Flamingo would win every time.

Asking me if I prefer Flamingo or Elara is like asking me which of my children I love more!

Westgate owner and HGVC owner's difference

Is there any unit choice differences between Westgate owners and HGVC owners?
For example, only HGVC owner can have renovated unit, high floor unit, etc...

I own 3 HGVC contracts, but also own Westgate Elara contract.
I don't remember I have paid for special assessment, so wondering if those renovated units are available for only HGVC owners.

.

Thanks IrishDave. This is a very helpful summary. We drove by the Karen Avenue address and the building and pool area looked rather plain. BTW... the lobby, pool and fitness center at the Strip location were quite nice. Since we visited in November, it is difficult to say if it becomes crowded during prime season.

Also noticed that there was an Elite Lounge at the Strip. Not sure if this is for Strip Owners who are Elites or HGVC elites in general. We are neither so did not enter.

Is there a listing of properties that have elite or owner lounges similar to this? I know NYC W57 has an owners lounge which we use.

The Strip Elite lounge is for all Elite owners. I was told it was one of two properties that have such a thing. I do not know which other property has one.

Don't forget the Trump location as well.

It's next to a much nicer mall than Elara and there are several nice casinos within walking distance.

We found the units very luxurious and not as tacky as the old black and red Westgate units.

Nice!! I'm very excited! Staying in a 3 bedroom unit at the Elara in Feb with the girls!

We own at Karen and have no intention of ever staying there!

We would have tried Trump but there are only 2 bedroom units.

Enjoy your vacation!!

Hiya,
Great info, thanks!

I've been to the Flamingo and loved the location too, the pools the BBQ area. We are thinking about the Elera next time... But I have a thing about heights ... Do they offer any units in floors lower down? I get the beauty of the views, but then I recall being in some of the bank towers here in Toronto and feeling movement for real and in my stomach....
Any noticeable building sway?

Thanks, Paul

I did not any sway to the building. I work in high rise, and yes sway can be a unnerving... they definitely have units on the lower floors.
