I noticed someone complaining about email reservation confirmations. I just wanted to add that I made reservations a couple hours ago and the emails showed up right away...and they were dead on correct, too! ;)

There are two considerations here - one is reserving your VOI via SVN's email system (generally, not advised) - the other is getting your confirmation via email - this can be hit/miss. I had to create another email account for getting these because they were disappearing into the ether - or getting sent to the seller that sold their TS to us.

The SVN reservation system is far from optimal for many reasons.

Certainly the time spent on the phone is ridiculous: 35 minutes for me. It was my first time, too, so I held on for the questionnaire and then left a voice comment at the end in regards to the time spent on the phone.

35 minutes for a single reservation is way to long. Was that using the elite member phone number, Westin Owner Services or the general phone number?

I used 1-888-986-9637. Enlighten me for a better number to use. :)

The lady on the phone was exceptionally nice so I didn't mind too much and I did ask a few questions but there was lottsa typing and repeating because I had made two separate reservations (1 studio, 1 1BD, back to back).

That is the Westin Owner services phone number. Didn't you post that you were Elite status. If so, they should have given you the Elite member phone number.
