I am selling a timeshare in Maui at the Marriott Ocean Club. I have a buyer. So, I am interested in advice about a good company to help me close the deal, handle the paperwork, and such. Marriott has the first right to refusal so I still have to deal with that.

Marriott suggested using First American Title. They have a Maui office.

Does anybody have experience with this website? http://firstamericantitle.com/

Are there any suggestions about this company?

By the way, the buyer wants to use Timeshare Transfers but I pushed back based solely on Marriott's recommendation. Is this a good company?

Are there any existing messages on either of these companies?

Just one more point, is there a location that lists all the steps involved in the process of selling the timeshare. I just want to have a checklist of each of the steps. The first item on the checklist is to get a buyer which I did using craiglist in Hawaii.

Thank you for any help!

Regards,
Magiknight

There is certainly nothing wrong with First American Title and their reportedly having a Hawaii office could prove to be a "plus".

Timeshare Transfer, Inc. (Vero Beach, Florida) is a long established and well respected closing company. That said, one of the principals in the business passed away some months ago; I don't know the current status or efficiency of the company today. Moreover, there are many states in which they don't handle closings at all; their web site home page lists all of the states for which TT handles timeshare closings.

BUT...
Timeshare Transfers (in Colorado) has no such track record of proven competency and / or reliability.
On the contrary, conducting a search on this entity will promptly yield numerous stories and reports of unhappy and dissatisfied customers.

Try Hawaii Escrow and Title Inc. in Lahaina. I have used them many times. They know Marriott's requirements and the sale will be done in full compliance of Hawaii laws.

No personal experience with any company named in this thread, but my experince has been that using a closing company based in Hawaii will result in much faster service.

First American Title is a well established Title Company, that also handles escrows (which are required by law in NV). Although I have not used their services in Hawaii, nor have I used their services for TS's yet, I have used their services many times for residential real estate, both single family homes and raw land here in NV. I have heard their name referred to a number of times as a closing agent for TS's. Marriott referred them and I assume that they use them. Although I would have no problem using their services for a TS, they will probably cost a little more than your basic $295 TS closing service.

First American Title is the company that provides title policies for Marriott on developer sales, so they will have a long history of performance with that brand. Syed's suggestion is also a very good choice.

I used First American Title last year to close in HI. I was told that Hawaii has some unique filing requirements and is generally a pain in the xxx if you don't live there to revise or refile documents.

First American knew what to do and handled everything.
