FIFA World Cup Viewing

I think it’s going to be France or Spain. Since both of my teams are out I’m going France.

The sun never sets on the British Empire. Very little to do with who will win.

Apparently 99 player or so in the World Cup were born in France so they certainly had pick of the litter.

IMHO, the FIFA, rules committee needs to make some major decisions about the red flag rules and their officiating; before the next World Cup Games.

France, England and Spain in the semi-final. The three countries that colonized all of America, with the exception of Brazil by Portugal and some Caribbean islands by the Netherlands.
France vs England in the final would be like Canada (French vs English).
Allez les Bleus, my little cousins.

Ranking of the last 4 teams as reported by Sports Illustrated.
1. France
2. Spain
3. England
4. Argentina

We shall see. If this plays out my daughter will be very happy. France has been her #1 all along.

Ok
Shift allegiance one more time
England all the way

Sad to see Norway lose
The only way to stop a 6’5” scoring machine is to hang on him
He pushes back
Gets a penalty

Jude Bellingham is a great player for England
I don't recall any penalties in this game.

It resulted in a foul being called on him, and the goal scored by Norway on the play to be taken away.

My bad

My lack of familiarity with soccer caused me to use the wrong terminology for the call against Haaland

I hope they review the rules of soccer more in season 4 of Ted Lasso

Seriously, Ted Lasso was my only indoctrination into soccer until this year's World Cup

Your explanations about rules helped me understand how soccer games are played and rules are enforced

I am sure I will hunt down when Jude Bellingham and Eriling Haaland are playing again and watch the game

Now, I am rooting for England to go all the way

Why was the Argentina player not given a second yellow card for going to the stands to celebrate their goal?

Why was the Argentina player not given a second yellow card for going to the stands to celebrate their goal?

Some people say because it was an Argentine player. If it was someone else, like a French player, it would have been a yellow card.
Of course, there is the argument from some people (I am not sure if an official reason was ever provided on or off the field) that the celebration was brief and did not involve contact with fans. FIFA's rules on a yellow card for going into the stands does add some extra information regarding safety or taunting or something like that. So maybe that is why?

During the same game, the swiss player received a second yellow card for simulation in the middle of the field. I can't remember when a player has ever received a second yellow for simulation in the middle of the field.

He plays for Man City in the English Premier League so England players were well aware of how to handle him.

It will be interesting to see how they defend Messi and Argentina.

David Portnoy (Barstool Sports) criticism of USA in it's loss to Belgium...

"They didn’t just lose; they looked like they had never played the game before. The stage was too big; the lights were too bright. They had no defense. The goalie looked like a deer on ice. It was the most pathetic performance I’ve ever seen... They set back soccer close to 100 years. That’s what they did. Everything about this game was disgusting."

Gee. I wonder what he really thinks.

France VS Spain
Here we go
May your favorite win
I have no favorites in this game

I had no idea of the rivalry between Argentina and England National Soccer Teams

There is deep seated animosity between the two teams going back decades

Should be an intense game

Go England

Probably going back to the Falklands War or the "Guerra de las Malvinas"

Apparently that was just one incident on the decades long rivalry

A big incident as we know

But this rivalry is long and deep

I wanted a final France-England Sunday but in place we will have this head-to-head for the 3rd place game Saturday.
Allez les Bleus for the honor.
I had tickets to that game and sold for a small profit over a month ago. Thought 3rd place ticket demand would have too much variance. If I really cared for either of the teams and came from Europe I would have flown home after their losses. But I hope England cleans the floor with France. Hopefully Span does the same with Argentina.

I hope Spain beats Argentina too and I’m neutral on the 3rd place game.
