Federal Employees Health Benefits
(FEHB) Program for Retirees OPM

RE Dec 2015 Open Season
Blue Cross and Blue Shield

Any retirees switch to the new Self Plus One
plan instead of the staying in the family plan?

If you switch from Standard Option
to Basic Option during open season
If you are not happy with basic are you
able to switch back the following year?

What are some of the negatives to
Basic Option when your primary is
Medicare first.

We are sticking with 2 single plans. It's cheaper for us.

You can switch back to Standard option next year if you try Basic and don't like it

Don't have any experience with FEHB plans and Medicare. We are retired but not in Medicare yet. It is something we will have to look into, though.

My husband is a retiree and has basic. He is happy with it but I am still working with family plan that picks up all of his copays. BC BS picks up my copays too.
He mentioned switching to self plus one now that our youngest has aged out but I don't think he actually did it.

After a $50/month jump for the family std option, I switched to self plus one std......or thought I did. A few days ago I got an email saying: "You asked to enroll in the same plan you already have. You do not need to do anything if you want to stay in the same plan. Your enrollment continues automatically each year."
I re-entered all the info changing it AGAIN and this time I took a screenshot of the confirmation screen. Some time this week I'll call to see if the change actually happened.
