Senior White House adviser Anthony Fauci said Thursday the death toll from the coronavirus could be closer to 60,000 Americans, assuming full social distancing, rather than the previously projected 100,000 to 240,000 deaths.

I respect this man and what he says -- most of the time.
But, today he said we should never again shake hands.
Nope. Can't support that.

I'm just saying, hand shakes have been with us for a long time, conveying more than just a greeting. For example, "let's shake on it" to mean giving your word.

My daughter thinks we should go back to bowing and curtsying.

Japan and China and other asian countries do a lot of bowing instead of handshakes
In another life I used to work for a Japanese manufacturer ... lots of bowing :)

Hand shaking has not caused problems for hundreds of years. Under normal circumstances, we do not need to be compulsive hand washers or avoid hand shaking or it would have already been a problem. Now we are being extra careful but I hope we can return to normal hygiene and greeting in the future.

I just need to learn how to stop touching my face. I never realized I did it so much.

I understand handshaking began as a show of friendliness as since most people are right handed, that was their sword hand. Advantage southpaws.

Most of the people I am around do Namaste (prayer hands) as a salutation. I did start doing small bows before this all happened.

Years ago, I felt socially obliged to shake hands within someone who had just flown back from Asia and had a "cold." I excused myself 5 minutes later and lathered up in the restroom before the meeting.
In early March, people thought I was completely bonkers at a dinner meeting where I said I had just gotten off a cruise and so wasn't going to shake anyone's hand.

I'm good with retiring the handshake, but since I'm kinda retired, not doing it anyway. It was always a business thing for me. I don't believe it's A Thing among ladies that know each other socially. I don't recall ever going to a party and shaking hands with anyone, unless I were trying to deflect a hug I didn't want. I am not a huggy person, definitely do not ever want a hug from someone I just met.

Not sure etiquette still holds, but used to be, if a lady did not offer her hand, one should not attempt to force a handshake.

I'm not sure the handshake has been around for hundreds of years but I wasn't, either, so cannot recall for sure ; )

What drives me crazy is the “sign of peace” handshake in church. That can go away forever IMO.
