Fall Foliage

Do you think there is any possilbity of getting an exchange into a timeshare in New England the first part of October? I was able to pull one in Maine, which didn't sound great. Am I too early? too late? Or is it just impossible to find one during peak season?

I would suggest that you keep trying. It seems that throughout the year there are always people asking about the foliage season in New England.

You might want to consider making hotel reservations for the area(s) that you'd like to see and cancel them if something comes up for a timeshare exchange or rental. And consider a hotel outside the major areas. For instance, Boston might get booked, but I live in a suburb of Boston and we have several residence inn type hotels as well as a Marriott and just north of us, in Woburn, there are also several well know chains.

It will definitely be "rustic", but that doesn't mean run down (but I have't been there). Many timeshares in New England have that rustic look to them. If you are looking to find the luxurious 5-Star resort, you will be disappointed.

Foliage dates vary with the weather so it is hard to pinpoint the best time. This resort is very north and as a PP said, foliage may be at peak (or it might be past peak) in this area. You might want to try and stay more central, then take a day trip to the peak areas (and maybe combine it with another day in the Boston area).

I studied a lot of data and I ended up booking a week at Smuggler's Notch in Vermont beginning Oct 3rd and Vacation Village in the Bershires Oct 10th thru 17th. It may not be the peak but hopefully we'll see some color.

With the two weeks in New England, I'm sure you will catch Peak somewhere. Even if you are in MA and peak is in VT or NH, it's aonly a two a three hour drive away. You would not be that far from the Adirondacks in NY either. That's the great thing about New England.

Several years ago, we were in New England last week in Sept/first week in October.. Fall Foliage was wonderful. We scheduled trip a little early in the season as we preferred seeing trees with leaves than nude trees. It was not peak, but to someone who lives in dry southern CA, it was absolutely fabulous.

In 2008, I was in Boston area the last week in October and there was still beautiful foliage. It was way beyond peak, but I thought it was lovely.

If I were to advise a Maine resort, I'd suggest Harbor Ridge in II; Samoset in RCI.

That being said, both are near the coast; which might not be your priority with a foliage visit.

I would add Acadia Village Resort - actually a bit better starting point for a Northern or Eastern trip.

Leaf season varies from year to year, so sometimes you may have to go north or south or east or west to find the more peak areas.

Watch for Polard Brook in Lincoln (II). I think it is the only 5 star in New Hampshire. Right in heart of the White Mountains. They have a 1BR out there now for the end of September.
