I closed my Facebook Account 6 or 7 years ago based on perceived risks. Haven't missed it at all...

Did you read the article? Apparently, Facebook admits they get around that using other methods:
“Even if someone does not enable location services, Facebook may still understand information about the location based on information that they and others provide through their activities and connections on our services. For example, if someone responds to an event on Facebook for a local music festival, upload a location-tagged video, or gets tagged by a friend in a check-in at a restaurant, these actions have give us information about that person’s likely location. Similarly, a person might share where they live by setting a location in Marketplace or adding their address to their profile.”

Ok, I suppose all the tech companies track you using nefarious means - Amazon, Google, Apple, etc. (including the government)
Maybe it's time to start wearing the aluminum foil hat ....
I have no reason to believe they all do. Facebook admits they do. I’m not afraid of technology. I worked in the IT field for 35 years. But when a company admits they gather information about me when I have expressly stated they do not have my permission to do so, I believe that represents a breach of contract and I will no longer be associated with that company.

so Google, Amazon and Apple are good but Facebook is bad. And you will no longer be associated with that company.
I suppose if the other three (3) billion people on the planet believe that Facebook is bad then that could mean trouble for Mr. Zuckerberg - and some of us would have to use Friendster and MySpace.
You seem to have plenty of opinions but you haven’t brought any facts to the discussion. I make decisions based on facts, not someone’s personal opinion, especially when I don’t even know that person. I know for a fact that Apple tries very hard not to share personal information with other companies or the government and they continue to provide users with the capabilities to guard their privacy. Are they always successful? No. Do they make decisions based on their bottom line and what is good for Apple? Yes, just like every other major corporation does. But, they also have a decades long reputation of trying to offer their users the best products while guarding their privacy. Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, since it’s inception, has shown a blatant disregard for user privacy. Those are facts about those two companies. Your opinion is you don’t care and if Facebook does it, everybody else must do it, too. That’s fine. You can have any opinion you want. Just don’t expect me to make any decision based on your opinion that, so far, you haven’t supported with any facts.

Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Google, Twitter, Flicker, Pinterest, Instagram, "Tik tok",
all the tech companies have privacy concerns. There are tons of of privacy "facts" and opinions on the internet.
yes, I finally clicked on your link
It's another example of a conservative (socialist) politician demanding that the "government take action" and pass sensible laws on privacy!
But consider this: instead of more government regulations why not start a campaign to stop people from posting location stuff on the internet. For example, people that post vacation and cat photos -
This will be my last post on this thread since it’s getting a little off track.
Chris Coons is a liberal Democrat from Connecticut and Josh Hawley is a conservative Republican from Missouri. As far as I can determine, neither of them is a socialist. I’m a liberal from Alabama. Yes, there are a few of us. One’s right to privacy has nothing to do with politics. Everyone has a right to privacy and every company should respect that. Based on their history, Facebook doesn’t.

We all try to limit our exposure but none of us can do it totally unless we secede from the world. I know I have exposure even though I don't have a Facebook Account; don't shop at Amazon; avoid Apple and Microsoft; don't use my personal computer when accessing the Internet; and don't have a smart phone. My primary exposure is my Gmail Account, my ChromeBook and Google...

And Google is the worst for that.
And Google is the worst for that.
I have FB but I don't post anything. I do stay in the loop of what my friends and family are up to because they post. We do use the private message feature if we want to chat. Once in a long while if I go out with friends, they may end up posting but it is usually when I am overseas and it is no big deal to me.
Ah, but it did, in the Equifax hack. We can't opt out of Equifax and it exposed our most sensitive data.Face it. We're exposed, looked at, inquired about, and spied upon. We're members of a naked society and nothing more than
denizens of a giant goldfish bowl, with a basic desire for privacy, but also a fear of loneliness. We want both proximity and distance, conversation and silence.
However, in the end, the best we can hope for is that our data doesn't rise up and attack us.
Chromebook uses the Google operating system and all the google applications
.... users never realize google is (potentially) tracking all their activity and locations .....
That’s how these companies know what ads to deliver your way.
