I went into Facebook to update some of my profile information. I decided I wanted to delete my birth date information. There seemed to be no way to do that, so I attempted to change the year. Now I am locked out and my account will be deleted unless I provide a scan of an official id showing my birth date. I don't want to do this, but I'd like to continue to use Facebook. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a way to get around this?

Personally, I don’t like Facebook because of its lack of privacy. There are times when I need to access it to see an FB video but I just have a fake name with fake details to do that. I know...FB doesn’t like that but I enjoy my anonymity and don’t care if they pull the account. There are just so many ways to communicate with family and friends today without baring your personal details.

So, the only way I know around it is to delete your account if you can and create a fake one. Just tell your friends to use that account via email if you want.

I dont know how to fix it but there is a security profile setting that lets you decide who can see your information. For others than want to hide their birth year, just change the Who Can View to Only Me.

Almost everything can be hidden.

I am not a big Facebook fan but they might be trying to ascertain that you are not a minor. Could you provide a redacted copy of your ID with only the birth year and your name? If they reject, then try FredFlintstone's approach.
