Has anyone figured out if/when inventory which RCI has for rent (Extra Vacations/Last Call) becomes available for exchange with weeks or points?

I'm new(er) to RCI and have spent a fair bit of time over the past few weeks looking over the system with suggetions from many here figuring out strategies. I have a points account and like most, notice RCI has ton's of inventory for rental but not alot for exchange. Summer Bay Las Vegas has for example has 100+ units stretching into 2010 right now for a bit less than maintence fee's run. I'm betting these are developer owned weeks that they have as a result of the new property swap, but I'd think at some point to move them RCI would begin letting (some) of them become available for exchangers...the question of course is when, if they do it at all.

They (RCI) certainly have a healthy portfolio on the rental side, what I'm trying to figure out is how to snag that which I'm interested in with points. I know there's been quite a bit of RCI unhappiness over the years and I wonder if there is a method to the madness, a code to crack perhaps which will yield more happiness!

I do know about last minute inventory on the weeks side which be had with 9,000 points, which is tremendous. What else? ;)

I can't answer your question about when/if developer weeks offered for rental as "Extra Vacations" might become available for exchange. But I can tell you for certain that some of those "Extra Vacation" rentals are exchange weeks. Recently I found a week I wanted in the exchange inventory. The same week was in Extra Vacations for considerably less than my MF, so I rented it. I know that it was the exact same week, because as soon as I confirmed the rental, it disappeared from the exchange availability.

I recently exchanged for a week in New Orleans that was also listed as a last call rental, and as soon as I confirmed my exchange it was gone from the last call availability list ( I exchanged a banked week instead of renting the last call because it was a little cheaper and my banked week was about to expire and be worthless).

Apparently some of the extra vacations and last calls are listed both as exchanges and RCI member rentals. Where they came from we will never know for sure, but I know that they are sometimes available for both exchange and rent.

Can you put in an ongoing request/Confirm First for the week, when you know it is there on the rental side but not on the exchange side?
