DH has two 35K pt certs from the Bonvoy credit cards from last year.
They should have expired in May, but Marriott extended them to August 1.
We're going to Hawaii in late August, and had a need to use 1 of them.
We called cust. support a couple of times before we got the answer we wanted :)

1st call - I called to inquire, and CSR was pretty helpful and thought extending expiration wouldn't be a problem.
However since cert was in DH's name she couldn't do anything.
2nd call - DH was told, oh no, not sure that can be done. You'll have to fill out a form which should come in 5 days. The CSR even hinted that his previous expenditure use of the Bonvoy card could influence the approval to extend...o_O
3rd call - after a few days (no email with form), DH calls again and gets a lead or supervisor, who tells him sure, I can do that. She extended cert expiration to a year from now, April 2022.

Fortunately he got the lead on his last call. I would have told him to escalate to a manager if he got another rep that repeated the line of the 2nd rep. We only wanted to have it extended 30 days. I'm cynical that we'll have to make multiple calls in the future because of unevenness in CS knowledge and training.

That is good to hear. I have 2 certificates initially expires on 7/4/21, Marriott extends to 8/1/2021 due to covid. I will try to wait till late June to ask for extension as really want to use them in 6/2022 in either China or Europe. In the past before covid, Marriott has allowed extension of the certificate by 1 year

I have 2 expiring on 8/1, 1 expiring 9/15, and 1 expiring 11/2. I hate that you can't use points to supplement. I have some upcoming stays in the 65,000-70,000 range. The only option 50,000 or under would require me to stay 40 miles away from where I want to go.

I agree with you about supplementing with additional points. Can you imagine how much good will they would get if they would allow this? I don't see why this is such a big deal to them.

With just one important exception to be aware of
If you had certificates with an expiry date earlier than 2020 extended through 2021, they won’t see further expiry date extension (better use them!).

Thanks. I have 4 certs (2 that currently expire Aug 1, 1 for Sept 15 and 1 for Oct 2) plus one I am using in June that also expired Aug 1. I would imagine at least one is from 2019. Do you think I should cancel the attached one now to see which if any does not get extended? Or do you think attached certs would also be extended so that an agent could change things around if need be?

I haven’t but called Bonvoy customer service and confirmed they were extended until January. They should show up on the account by May 10th.

The T&Cs say “Starting May 6th” so perhaps it will be done in waves.
