We did the 'Big Trip' exchange and used the ff miles already; but want to use our Hotel Certificate for hotels Cat 1-5 for Thailand next January. Our present cert expires in June 2006.

1. Which office do I call to get the Cert extended?

2. The charge is how much?

3. Can I extend is past Jan 2007?

4. Can it be done online?

Thank you in advance!

I sent an e-mail to our Vacation Ownership Counselor about what I wanted to do.

He was exceptionally helpful and advised that the Cert be sent to his attention and promptly took care of the extension. No fee. Return Cert was sent by DSL Courier. I believe the one-time, one-year extension is it.

Be aware that you should ask WHEN to send it, as the renewal date is when they process it, not a year extension from current expiration date.

On-line, I don't know.

I just extend my cert recently to use for our August trip to Hawaii. You can call the customer service number on your Marriott reward account to do that. I don't think you can do it online though. If you call now, your certificate will be extended to March 2007, 1 year from the date you called. There is no charge.

Be aware that some Marriott hotels changed their category recently. This occured where we had a reservation with a Cat 6 certificate and now the hotel is Cat 7. We called to verify the fact that since we made our reservation BEFORE the change went into effect, our certificate would still be honored. Just check before you make other plans like flights, etc.

There are some great category 5 hotels ... if you don't know how to find them, go to this link and click on 'hotel category chart' in the 2nd paragraph, then change the number to 5 and enjoy as there are quite a few that have dropped from Cat 6 to Cat 5 this year.
