My Daughter, her husband and her three young children will be staying on an rci Disney exchange at SSR in later July
They plan on using the magical express to get to and from the airport
They may want to stay an extrs day or two
Any suggestions as to the best way to do this?

Rent exactly the same unit (size and view category) from Disney, and see if they can link the two reservations together. You may not be able to do this in advance--the inventory pools used to be managed separately, and I don't know if that's been changed or not. If they can't link them in advance, it is possible that the front desk can keep them from having to move; just ask at check in.

You can also rent points from someone who has dvc and have them book a room and ask reservations to be linked and then remind them at check in. It depends if there is any availability.

I'd rent from a member if there is availability. Should be cheaper than direct plus it'll be much easier to guarantee the same view type. That means you need to call DVC directly to get the view type. I assume this is under your account and that you already have a guest certificate as so as DVC is very strict in this area when applicable.

Through DVC - Preferred one bedroom at SSR are available for July and August. Standard only available on 23 July. Always subject to change.

Pretty sure Disney will still move luggage between resorts if they want to or have to move. Just tip on pickup and delivery.

Thanks kids already have guest certificate
They are taking care of internal disney tickets and admissions themselves and were told they needed them to do so
Usually I will wait just until closer to the trip just in case someone has a last minute change

Maybe not for a 1BR that is covered under the summer discount. 1BR are by far the least efficient stays on points. It might be a little bit cheaper through an owner but it is a LOT easier through Disney.
Don't forget the tax difference and that the discounts can be elusive, but the main issue is that it's often more difficult to match up view types direct than through DVC.

If renting from an owner, ask the owner to give Member Services the Disney confirmation number for the RCI exchange and ask that a “continuing stay” notation be placed on both reservations. If the extended stay is booked directly through Disney, the Disney reservations CM can do the same. That lets the room assigners know to keep them in the same room, if at all possible (assuming same villa size, resort and view).

I agree - check the cash availability and cost from Disney as well as via renting from an owner. Disney’s payment and cancellation policies are much more flexible than owner rentals. Also, availability can be different between owners and cash.

Yes, Disney still moves luggage. Just call Bell Services for pickup or bring them down yourself and head out to the parks. The luggage will arrive at the new resort in the late afternoon, so it’s best to keep anything you’ll need during the day with you. Then head to the new resort and go by/call BS when you have your room.
PS if changing resorts, be sure to completely check out of the first one when leaving it, otherwise there can be problems with getting into the new room. And you can use the pools, parking lots, and other facilities of both resorts all that day.

It looks like one bedroom preferred are available for most nights starting July 17 for points during the second half of the month. But not standard. Those nights could go if owners start to book for the month later to use up points. To stay in the same villa, she'd need to make sure she was in a preferred villa not standard. Or just change villas or change resorts. Not sure about cash reservations.
