In November 2010 I purchased what I thought was a 1 week two bedroom stay at the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean resort villas for $2,495. That is what I was told by the salesperson. I am now trying to book my return stay and I am told that the contract that I signed was only for a studio with a max of 4 people for which there are 5 in my family. Obviously not going to work for us and I obviously would never have purchased a studio. Has anyone else purchased an explorer package from Maui and if so how much did you pay and how big was the room. I would like to compare to what I paid. Thank you. I eagerly await your responses.

Sincerely,

DFG

You mention this was an Explorer Package - what does the paperwork say? The one that you signed? What a salesperson told you means little - it comes down to what you signed in your contract with them.

I am told that the contract that I signed was only for a studio

The various Explorer packages are always for Studio units, it says so explicitly in your contract... If the salesperson said anything else, he/she lied.

You may be able to make alternative arrangements when you go to book your return visit.

For example, we had a 5-night studio at WMH as part of a specific Explorer package -- we instead talked them in to a 4-night hotel-side full suite when we called to book the return visit. We ended up with one of the Presidentials Suites due to a bunch of issues when we actually arrived.

We purchased an Explorer "Ultra" package in '08 for FL or SC. Each one states either 8 day/7 night x amount of starpoints- 5 day/4 night x amount of starpoint, stay in a one or two bedroom, based on availability. No mention of a studio. But Hawaii could be different. Check your paperwork and see what you signed. We went back and had a two bedroom.

Not always. We've been offered Explorer Packages for stays in larger units in the past. But the bottom line is the OP needs to read what is in his/her paperwork. As previously stated, what the salesperson means nothing; what matters is what is in the signed contract/document.

That's how I found this board.

I rented at wkorvn and decided to do the presentation. I had walked around Lahaina and saw that I could buy for like 31k. I declined the 65k presentation price but decided to take the explorer package, to keep my options open. I went back to our studio, and got to this message board and found I could rent a one bed or almost a two bedroom for the same price.

So when I got home I followed the board advise and declined, I would try to upgrade as I am only going to rent one bedroom with my kids.
