Can anyone tell me if my RCI weeks membership can be used for Wyndham points for not? or I need to get separate membership for it or not? I don't really want to deposit my Wyndham points into RCI but my 2011 points will expire in end of March 2012 and I don't want to waste these points.

I just did a refresher review on the Wyndham Primer (GREAT INFO! THANKS!). Is making a reservation and cancelling my reservation the best way to keep my points? (at least until year end)

Note: As an owner of points, if you cancel a reservation 15 days or more prior to the check-in date, the points used for the reservation will be returned to your account as “cancelled reservation points.” Cancelled reservation points will expire at the end of your Use Year; but they can be used prior to the last day of your Use Year for all current programs except:

I think I am still a relatively newbie as to exchange and using my Wyndham points. I brought on ebay 84,000/yr Wyndham points ownership at Smoky Mountains and also a fixed week at Fairfield Mountains at the end of 2010. I have a RCI week membership and I have deposited my 2011 week into RCI. Even though I have followed and read extensively on this forum prior to my purchases on ebay.

Thanks in advance for any pointers....:ponder:

You deposit points into RCI via the RCI portal on the Wyndham website. Log into the Wyn website, then go to the drop down under "My Membership" and click on RCI exchanges. You shouldn't have to set anything up, it should be set up for you already.

Based on the information you gave, you can't keep your points active until the end of the calendar year by booking and cancelling because YOUR use year sounds like it ends on March 31. You can deposit your points into RCI, which will keep them available to use in RCI for 2 more years.

Thanks for both of your quick replies. I did find the RCI points exchange from my Wyndham account. Looks like 84000 pts only be worthy of quiet demand studio or 1 BD (I remember the major RCI deposit change occurred last year).

If my Use Year End Date is March 31, 2012 does this mean that I need to reserve with Wyndham before 03/31/12 but I can reserve units beyond 03/31/12 (as long as it is in year 2012) or this means I can only reserve Wyndham units that is available before 03/31/12?

Thanks again for your help...

Go to the on-line system and give it a shot. Interesting things happen when you try this. I am not real sure it is consist in what it does. So if does not work, try again. If that does not work, call reservations, sometimes they let you do things to help use points instead of losing them that the computer will not do.

Your checkin date HAS to be before 3/31 -- and can NOT be a split reservation where the 2nd chckin datte is after 3/31...

I have seen really odd and inconsistent behavior regarding cancelled points. I've had cancelled points put into use years I don't even have. Sometimes to my favor, sometimes not.

If at first you don't succeed, try try again...

Disclaimers:
* Being VIP, I don't have a transaction fee thus cancel/rebook charges are not a consideration for me
* I have never used RCI so cannot speak to that area whatsoever... still learning about regular Wyndham points / usage.

Good luck!

Deposit to RCI loss the extra points?

After checking Wyndham website for March availability and I could not find any that suites me. Now if I deposit my 84,000 points to RCI do I just get the 74,000 point equivalent quiet week 1 bed/studio or I can keep this 84000 as RCI points and may be deposit additional 11000 points from my 2012 Wyndham allocations in the future to upgrade to a value week 1 bed/st reservation?

Also, is there any good reason to break up deposit into multiple smaller points size such as 27,000 points (min)?

Thanks again for all the helps.... This is like the airline/hotel frequent mile program that game/rule keep changing and make points/miles worth less and less.

When you deposit Wyndham points into RCI, they go into a "bucket". There is no advantage of depositing in smaller amounts. That is the way it was done in the past, but no more. If you deposit your 84,000 for this year, you can indeed add to it next year. Whatever you deposit next year will automatically go into the same "bucket".

Just don't call them "RCI points". Those are something different altogether.

I like the bucket idea. We still have to deposit exact amounts into II to match up with unit size although season does not matter in II. It is on the chart, but is a non factor.

If you are thinking about adding the 11000 points from 2012 you should do it at the same time that you deposit your 2011 points since I believe you will use a reservation transaction. If you only have 84K pts per year you only get one after that the reservation transactions are $30 online.

Thanks for the feedbacks on deposit points and "bucket". I think I will just deposit my whole 84,000 points and see what happens. Not a good use of Wyndham points but I probably waited too long to use these points.

This is the 1st I have heard of the bucket concept. Prior it was you deposit points and you received a Red, White, or Blue week for a certain unit size. I also thought they lasted 3 years once deposited -- It is now 2 years. There is the Wyndham Points Credit Pool that (if you are a non-VIP owner) you can deposit all or a portion of your points into PRIOR to your use year beginning. If you think you can only take 1 week of vacation next year and you already deposited points into RCI you can Bank your points into the Wyndham Points Credit Pool which is available for limited use for 3 years.

The bucket concept is for all points deposits made since Jan 10, 2011. Prior to that, all deposits were separate weeks. RCI deposits have always been valid for 2 years. Placing your points into the points credit pool with Wyndham gives them a 3 year lifespan but unless VIP, must be done prior to start of use year.

You can extend the 2 year RCI life for a fee.
