Expiring points and using for Travelex Insurance

I was on the phone with them for a question and the agent said that only in December can you pay 3 years going forward for the insurance. For those of you looking to burn points, it might be nice to know that tidbit.

I think it's about 800 points for each year's insurance versus $189 per year in cash. "Burning points" is a good description of the stupidity of this option.

I am impressed by the goodness of those willing to transfer leftover or excess points to help a fellow points user.

I would add that first time Travelex buyers want to buy the insurance within three days of paying their MFs to qualify for the pre-existing condition exclusion waiver. And agree that paying cash is almost always a better option than points (though I did do so once during the height of COVID as buying Travelex is one of the few uses for holding points about to expire).
