I have 3800 banked MVC DC points that will expire in August 2021. If I do not use them for a vacation, what other options would I have? Is it better to convert to Marriott Bonvoy points or put them in II? I am also open to other ideas? I'm sure so many people are in the same boat as me and could use some guidance.

Rent them out and produce some income from them. Website below:

.

Because they are banked you will need to make the reservations for anyone who is interested.

I could be wrong, but it may be too late to convert those to Marriott Bonvoy Points. Besides, the conversion rate is poor.

Banked points can't be converted to Bonvoy. Also, only true Trust points can be converted to Bonvoy. Points from legacy weeks can't.

Thanks! These are true Trust points. I guess a Bonvoy transfer is not an available option because they are banked. It sounds like that is a poor use of points anyway.

If you log onto MVC, go under “use points” and select “explorers collection” you will see what you can do with your points other than book a stay. Most of what’s listed needs to be done before the points expire (I believe some golf and airline points conversion can be used at a later date- chat with MVC to confirm).

If you go under “use points” then select “interval international” you will see the chart of how points convert to a deposited week in II. The week will be good for 2 years from when it is deposited and can’t be exchanged into an MVC but can exchange into Westin/Sheraton or vistana without an exchange fee and all other resorts with an exchange fee.

Thanks for the solutions. I see that the explorer collection has several good choices. I think the interval choice might be better because it gives 2 year extension. I called the mvc number and spoke to a representative who said you can't trade into anything marriott owns. So he said no Sheraton or Weston. Is he right?

Thanks for the suggestions! It shows me options I didn't think of. I'll have to spend some time reading about interval and how to use it.

No, what he should have said was no Marriott Vacation club properties- nothing you can book directly with your DC points.
If you can’t book it directly with DC points you can exchange to it though II- this way points owners have access to everything same as weeks owners have access to everything.
I have a points week in my II account right now and can exchange to Sheraton & Westin- no exchange fee.

Hello, all! We had to cancel several trips in the past 6 weeks recently and are now sitting on 4,960 points in holding that expire 3/31/21, as in 32 days from today. That does not count the 1,440 points we just used to book an upcoming (tentative) quick trip to Grande Vista for 5 nights just because we have so many expiring points. I know we could use 4,875 of the expiring points to convert to $1,210 resort credits and then live large for those 5 nights. Any better ideas on what to do with 6,400 points expiring 3/31/21 if we cancel Grande Vista?

Your only real option would be to try to rent them. Are they transferable? Or are they banked points? Rental utility is going to be pretty limited, so you certainly won't get top dollar. Where do you live? Are you close to any other Marriott properties that you could go to? What would be keeping you from Grande Vista?

Read Post #2.

DON'T delay! Don't be greedy on your asking price!

20 cents per point should move them out for you......

These are "Trust Points in Holding Account" that have not been banked, so it seems they are transferable, but I guess that can only be done by talking to MVC owner services, now open only 9-5 on M-F. The main problem of course is that they expire on 3/31, so not much flexibility. No one on https://vacationpointexchange.com/ is interested in renting such limited points.

I shall try booking a desirable resort and posting that for rent. Else we'll use our points at Grande Vista. Fortunately we live close to Orlando, giving us lots of resort options with plenty of availability in March.

seems like you’ve also got Orlando ticket and restaurant credits, with extended expiration dates available, through the explorer’s collection

MVC chat feature is available on Sunday- I just used it. I would suggest chatting or calling and letting them help you sort out your best option.
Good luck.

I honestly think you can get more out of burning them in Orlando than renting them. II deposits are an option, but you can't use those to trade into Marriott properties. I say live it large in Orlando. Can you use the resort credit for park tickets and such. Of course $1200 doesn't go very far toward park tickets these days.

I've been thinking of some shorter trips. I can get away for some weekend stays. Orlando is close so that is a good choice. Williamsburg or HH, but not much available there. MVC interval rep also said that mvc points in a holding account can't be transferred to interval. Is that true???

I had about 6,000 points expiring on July 2, 2021. I converted 2400 points to 8 golf rounds at Desert Springs course and I just checked in today to use the golf rounds. It is a poor exchange - 300 points for a round - rack rate is $99 per round during the pandemic - they normally go for $139 a round pre-covid, so I am getting about half the value. But I treat it as sunk cost and at least we will be golfing for free this week. I will wait until June with the remaining points and make a decision between converting to a week to deposit into II or use them to book more golf rounds as they are good for a year or a mix of both.

I did use expiring restricted Vistana SOs from 2020 to convert to $1210 in resort credit to be used at Westin Desert Willow following the stay here at Desert Springs. We plan for alot of shopping at the Marketplace as there is only so much pool food we can consume.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! After seeing the tiny marketplace at Barony Beach Club last week, we were pleasantly surprised to see online that Grande Vista has what looks like a real store with lots to pick from (though still likely at resort marketplace prices, meaning poor value). While a little early to buy Christmas presents, better that than letting 3,575 points ($1,210 resort credit) expire on us.

First, though, I've tentatively booked [Deleted.] Great place... we were there in late January and loved it, but we need to get my 88-y.o. MIL to her 2nd shot on 3/10, so no return CO trip for us this month.

Yeah, the Marketplace at Grande Vista is pretty big, though as you say "resort prices'. It is also run by an outside vendor, so be sure to confirm that the resort credit would apply there.
