If I remember correctly, Starwood's Star Points expire after 6 years. Does Starwood notify point holders of the pending expiration of Star Points or do the points simply disappear from one's account. Also, is there a way to check what the status is of one's points so that the holder is also aware that some points are close to disappearing.

It depends on the source of the points.

We were emailed a notification about starpoints expiring. These were the ones originally given when we purchased the TS.

However, we made a reservation to use them and was told that as long as the reservation is made before they expire, that was fine. So, you do not have to USE them before the expiration, as long as you have a reservation made using them before the expiration.

You can change the reservation to a different date, but if you cancel the reservation the points will be lost on the original expiration date.

At a minimum, if I was notified of expiring points, I would ask to see the data of points in, from where, what dates, and then points out. Just to make sure that the points that are used are taken from the bucket that expires rather than the one that can be extended with activity
