Hi folks we are new to Timeshares we own a Platinum week at Horizons, Orlando. We want to stay at Marco Island Property in April 2009. We have not made reservations with Marriott. I realize now that we are late at trying to do this. I believe we have to go through interval to do this. Is there any advantage at staying at another Marriott property from a fee perspective. And secondly at this late date how likely am I going to be able to get a week at the Mariott Marco Island resort.

Trading through II you will have a reduced fee for the trade if you trade from Marriott to Marriott. As for the likelihood of getting a trade into Marriott's Marco Island resort at this late date, I think it will be difficult, especially if you are thinking of the school break week in April.

However, if you have flexibility, I would make the request anyway. If the trade is not made, your fee will be returned. You could also place other Marriott locations on the same request. Do not, however, mix Marriott requests with non-Marriott requests as the discount with the trade fee will be lost.

Welcome to time sharing!

Since you are wanting a Marriott to Marriott exchange, you can call your Vacation Ownership Advisor and set this up with a single phone call. She can ook a good week and take care of the II request for you as well.

Marriott may still make a bulk deposit of Marco Island units resulting in a successful trade, but other than that your chances may be limited. Next year try to plan much further in advance.

Steps to follow when you call Owner Services:

#1 - Reserve the very best trading week you can, based on the Travel Demand Index for Horizons, as shown at the link on the page for Horizons at the online version of II's Resort Directory.

#2 - Only then tell the agent you want to exchange that reserved week.

If you simply tell the agent that you want to exchange your week, Marriott will pick a week for you and it almost certainly won't be one of the strongest trading weeks!

The blue dots tell you how far from the middle (100) the demand for that week is. To the right is an increased demand and to the left is a less than average demand (increased supply). Try for weeks that are at least middle or greater to the right.

You may also look at the demand for the location you are interested in going to. Although the demand indexes are specific to the location, you can get an idea of whether what you are looking for is high above the middle or below the middle. This relative position can help you "guess" your likelihood of an exchange.

Happy hunting.
