Exchanging DC Points through II

So, I've been trying to find information about the process for exchanging DC points through II, but not having much luck.

Specifically, I'd like to know how MVCI allocates points to II for an exchange. Do they take points from the current use year for future ressies, or from the use year when the reservation is valid? How about if you have points in multiple buckets, like clean, banked, transferred etc? Will they combine them as needed?

Just trying to figure out if making an II exchange for a ressie in 2016 is an option for using my 2015 points before they expire?

Hopefully someone has some insight! Thanks.

You could try the MVC Learning Center webinar recordings listed HERE. There is one called Exchange Partner Resorts, which is intended to show you how to use DC points for booking in II. Not sure if it will answer your questions, but it might be worth your 15 minutes to view it on the chance that it might.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was unable to find the answer in any of the online sources, so contacted a VA.

I was told different buckets of DC points can be combined for II exchanges (as long as they're not in a holding acct), and you have to call and request which use year(s) you want applied to the ressie. So not sure how it would get allocated if you reserve online.

In any case, it's good to know booking something for a future year is an available option for using points that are close to expiry. Didn't ask what would happen if you need to cancel such a reservation though.

I seem to recall when the Destination Club began that you could reserved a week with your points and then deposit the week in II.

No, this is not possible. You must use points to exchange in II. You can't use a DClub reservation to deposit in to II.

I don't think you can flat out deposit DC points, you can place an OGS using DC points and if it doesn't come through and the points are getting ready to expire, Marriott will provide a deposit certificate that can be used for a future exchange.
