I'm curious if anyone has any helpful tips/experience in this. Where we would like to go does not have a Bluegreen resort or RCI exchange. We also have points we need to use or lose. But they do have Choice hotels. Thanks in advance for suggestions.

how many points are you looking to convert? You can't use points you have already saved.

You only get two choice points for each Blurgreen point.
So a $100 hotel room can cost you $300-400 in maint fees

What is your maint fee per thousand points? Do the math before you decide.
And be sure you are okay with the quality of the choice hotel. I just stayed in a comfort suites that was really dumpy because there was no Marriott Hilton Hyatt in the area and the Best Western was full.

I just checked my recent reservation
With tax I paid $191 per night
The cost in choice points 20,000
That equals 10,000 Bluegreen points
As a Platinum owner my maint fee is $70 per thousand (many owners pay $80-100 per thousand) so this reservation would have cost me $700.

Just don’t do it.

I thought it was 4 points per bluegreen point (which is still bad to get 2 nights in a hotel room for 10,000 vacation points) plus a fee for the transaction. Did it change or have I just always been wrong?

They reduce it to 2 points last year.
And it is ONE hotel night for 20,000 choice or 10,000 Bluegreen. A $191 hotel room for $700 (10,000) Bluegreen points.
And I believe there is a conversion fee but I don't know what it is.

OTOH: if your BG points are about to expire, and you want to get SOME benefit from them,
(1) see if they can be extended for one mor eyear (usable in Blue or White seasons)
or, if not,
(2) (least desireable) convert to ChoicePrivilege points (which have NO expiry) and use them that way.
Yes, the economics (as pointed out frequently) are not very good, but it's a risk taken with perishable commodities (points that expire).

The current rate is 2 ChoicePrivilege points per BG point, plus a US$50/transaction fee for the conversion.
Sometimes ChoicePrivileges offers a deal at 4:1, 6:1 or 10:1 (if my memory serves me). No deals currently on offer AFAIK today, tho.

The number of points per night at Choice Hotels depends on season, day of week and location. Your mileage will vary...

BG to choice used to be 4 to 1. They downgraded it to 2 to 1 in 2020
There are NEVER any deals that change that ratio.

I don’t know if choice points expire.

The best use of soon to expire BG points (other than saving for Red White Blue time for one year ) IMHO is to exchange in RCI …. However you need enough to book which would be in the 7-10K points range. You can exchange out 2 years.

There are many resorts that have great red season time. Big Cedar, La Cabana to name a few. Points are usually worth saving with BG.
