In the wake of the recent massive data hack that exposed so many people's confidential personal information, I'm seeing articles with advice on what to do. Here's one that I saw today:

https://lifehacker.com/money/seven-things-to-do-if-someone-is-using-your-social-security-number

Much of this is information that has been available for a long time. For example:
  1. Check your free credit report(s) periodically
  2. Freeze your credit at the 3 major credit reporting agencies - been there, done that
  3. Set up your account on the Social Security website - in case you are unaware, the sign-in method has changed recently. I can no longer sign in directly with the ID and password I created. Now I am redirected to sign in via an external website such as ID.me
  4. Get an IRS protection PIN - I did that a few years ago. The IRS indicated that I would receive a new PIN via the mail each year, but often I find that I have to instead sign in to the IRS website to find/generate that PIN.
But here's one that is new to me. According to the article: "You can also "self lock" your SSN on e-Verify, which prevents anyone from submitting your number for employment"

Since TUGGERs seem to know something about everything, I'll ask. Has anyone set up an e-Verify account? What are the pros and cons to doing this?
