Those of you from Europe, are you making any plans to travel to USA/Thailand etc for 2021 or still just sitting tight for now? I really don’t know what to be doing!!

Not making any plans yet for travel outside of Europe.

While I am comfortable taking a calculated risk to travel by making smart plans and observing as many precautions as possible, I am not comfortable with the uncertainty of being able to actually follow any plan I actually make. Flight schedules are being changed constantly, new quarantine restrictions pop up overnight and getting deposits/refunds back is a nightmare. For now, that means sticking closer to home and planning trips where the outlay is lower and impact is minimal if something goes wrong or there is a severe interruption of some sort.

I've got a trip to FL and a trip to the USVI that were already on the books for late next winter/early spring that I have not yet canceled but no way am I planning anything else that far afield until travel gets more regular and certain.

We are still booked for Thailand later this year, although signs are not encouraging for this going ahead.
For next year, we have a number of bookings through to September, but all here in Europe
We are then planning for Thailand again towards the end of next year, really really hoping that will go ahead even if this year’s trip doesn’t.

I cancelled our christmas/new year trip to Thailand for this year. I am uneasy about being in an airplane for so many hours

So for the moment, staying in Spain. Which is not a negative by any means !!

I have two weeks booked at Mallorca (Club Son Antem) In October- consider to cancel - no additional plans for travel within Europe for 2020 and definitely no long haul flights.
No plans for travel outside Europe in 2021 either.
No long haul travel without an effective vaccine.

We should be at Son Antem this week (and last) but cancelled due to the FCO advising against all non essential travel to Spain. Instead we took a short break to Canterbury and visited Dover Castle today. Unfortunately the current heatwave made it quite difficult to enjoy. Our 1980's wood lodge at Broome Park was like a furnace last night (at least there's AC at Son Antem) but the castle was quite cool inside although masks were obligatory.

We're back home now amongst some very efficient fans and a nice coastal breeze. We have no plans for long haul travel although we have a couple of British Airways companion vouchers which are not cost effective when used on short haul flights so we need to consider where and when to go. We have no interest in returning to the US so perhaps looking more eastwards. What we are doing is thinking more about travelling within the UK. So many fantastic places to visit that we often overlook in favour of flying half way around the world.

I agree that the BA Companion vouchers are not the most cost effective for short haul travel.
Also having a few though, with the uncertainty about long haul travel and not wanting to just lose them through expiry we have used one for our first 2021 trip to Club Son Antem.

It depends where in Spain you're referring to. It's a huge country with a multitude of terrain and climate. I've regularly spent time in the Costa Del Sol and Mallorca in October (school holidays so always at the end of the month) and the weather has always been great. Not scorchingly hot but warm enough for lounging by the pool and walking around in shorts and t-shirts without being drenched in sweat.

Sol usually still nice. I live on Costa Blanca and usually around Halloween is when my kids go back into long trousers and long sleeves!

Thank you for the replies. Ideas referring to where the Marriott resorts are.

Was wondering if Thailand was safe to travel to as we still haven’t tried it, might have been an idea!

Safety can only ever be a personal judgement.
We spend up to 2 months there every year.
Their reported Covid-19 numbers are very low and they are ranked 1st or 2nd in the World for their efforts to limit and recover from Covid-19.
At the same time, for us in the UK our government still advise against all but essential travel there?
